The cover feature, “How Clarksvillians Are Helping Guatemala,” spotlighted local residents extending their compassion far beyond the city limits — the kind of outward-looking service story the magazine loved to tell, celebrating a community whose generosity crosses borders.
“Clarksville Lego Creators Club” brought a fun, family-friendly feature on the young builders and their imaginative creations, while “Red River Valley Park” spotlighted an outdoor destination for families looking to enjoy the spring weather.
The health pages encouraged readers to “Fill Up on Fiber” and offered a liposuction and body-sculpture feature, and safety coverage rounded out the issue. The recurring departments round out a May number defined by compassion that reaches from home to abroad — a city as eager to help a distant neighbor as it is to build something wonderful, one Lego brick at a time.
Pamela Magrans framed “How Clarksvillians Are Helping Guatemala” through the gap between comfort and necessity. Most residents, she wrote, take garage door openers, garbage disposals and air conditioning for granted, and treat running water, indoor plumbing and schooling for their children as the basic selling points of any home — luxuries that much of the world, including the Guatemalan families the mission set out to help, does without. The subtitle told the rest: real estate, scorpions and a mission.
