The health pages helped readers through seasonal confusion with “Is It an Allergy — Or Is It a Cold?,” marked April as Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and addressed youth sports safety in “Pitching, Strikeouts and Injuries.” “An Invitation to Play,” a Style feature, and “A Stranger Visits Swan Lake” rounded things out.

The championship feature spelled out just how improbable the run had been. Austin Peay's men entered the Ohio Valley Conference tournament as a No. 8 seed on track for a fifth straight losing season — then reeled off four upsets in four nights to become the first No. 8 seed ever to win the OVC tournament and claim an NCAA bid. It was the Governors' first OVC title since 2008 and their sixth all-time, proof that the only guarantee in the tournament is that there are none.
