Riverfest headlined the issue. After being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Clarksville's favorite event returned for its 33rd annual celebration — an arts and recreation festival on the banks of the Cumberland that draws more than 30,000 people, running 5pm to 10pm along the downtown riverfront. A companion “Years of Riverfest” feature looked back across the event's history.

“Sanctuary on Main” spotlighted a collaboration between two local creative brands, ArtLink Clarksville and LOCAL Clarksville, teaming up to celebrate and showcase local artists, creators and small businesses. “Artsville” brought the celebration into the streets of historic downtown, where ten chalking hubs were set up around the festival and visitors could add to the collective, temporary artwork covering the pavement.

The recurring departments round out an issue defined by return and reunion. After a year when gathering itself had been impossible, September 2021 reads like a homecoming — the river festival back, the artists collaborating, and downtown alive again with color and crowds.

The Riverfest coverage laid out the homecoming in detail: the 33rd annual festival, September 9–11, running 5 to 10 p.m. and bringing more than 30,000 people to the banks of the Cumberland for a free celebration of music, art and family events across McGregor Park. It was Clarksville's longest-running community festival, back after a pandemic year away — and the issue paired it with two more signs of a city gathering again, the artist showcase Sanctuary on Main and the collaborative sidewalk-chalk celebration Artsville in the streets of historic downtown.
