The issue's most moving story was Caleb Cares. Just over three years earlier, Clarksville teenager Caleb Slate was lost to suicide, and from that grief his family built a nonprofit — the Caleb Cares Foundation — to reach other young people and the community around them. The feature honored both the loss and the work it set in motion, a family turning the worst kind of pain into ongoing help for others.
“Small Businesses in Crisis” took stock of the pressures facing Clarksville's local shops and owners. “Tri-Star Trouble” dug into a detail most Tennesseans never think about: the precise positioning of the state's three-star design, each star oriented with a point toward the center. For the season, “Fall Gardening Chores & Rewards” reframed October as the true beginning of the horticultural year, and a companion DIY feature showed how to build fall harvest décor made to last.
The recurring departments round out an October number that moves from profound loss to civic detail to the reassuring rhythm of the garden — holding a family's grief and the small satisfactions of a seasonal craft project within the same pages.
The Caleb Cares Project turned private grief into public good. Just over three years after Clarksville teenager Caleb Slate died by suicide, his family built the nonprofit to keep his memory alive and spread love through the community that missed him — providing weekend food bags to the Lincoln Homes Head Start Program and working alongside the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Action Agency to support other Head Start groups. The feature closed with the number that can save a life: 988, the National Suicide Prevention line.
