APSU Football’s Kordell Jackson, DeAngelo Wilson, Bucky Williams receive AFCA All-America honors

 

APSU FootballWaco, TX – The American Football Coaches Association named Austin Peay State University (APSU) football defensive back Kordell Jackson and wide receiver DeAngelo Wilson to its 2021 Spring FCS First Team All-America, Friday, with offensive lineman Bucky Williams receiving Second Team honors as well.

It is the second-straight year Jackson has earned All-America honors from the AFCA, which named him First Team All-America last season.

Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin named Collegiate Baseball National Coach of the Year

 

Vanderbilt CommodoresNashville, Tn –Two days after winning Vanderbilt’s first-ever men’s national title Commodores’ head coach Tim Corbin has been named National Coach of the Year by Collegiate Baseball.

Corbin led Vanderbilt to a 51-21 record, the Dores’ second straight 50-win season and third in the last four years. The Commodores returned to Omaha for the second time in four years winning the national title in just the school’s second-ever trip to the College World Series. Corbin surpassed 600 career wins during the season and now has 517 wins as the Commodores’ head coach, second-most in program history.

APSU names Emily Kink Copies in a Flash Athlete of the Week

 

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Senior defender Emily Kink, of Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Kink earned Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after assisting on senior Tatiana Ariza’s go-ahead goal at Western Kentucky, Friday. The Franklin native played the full 110 minutes in Austin Peay’s hard-fought draw against the Hilltoppers and the full 90 minutes in Austin Peay’s 2-1 victory at Lipscomb, Monday.

University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Head Coach John Calipari Honorary NSCS Quaker State 400 Pace Car Driver

University of Tennessee to retire Candace Parker’s jersey

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary women’s basketball player Candace Parker by retiring her jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee Athletics Department announced Thursday.

Parker, a two-time All-American, will become the sixth Lady Vol player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. Her No. 3 banner will join those for Holly Warlick (No. 22), Chamique Holdsclaw (No. 23), Tamika Catchings (No. 24), Bridgette Gordon (No. 30) and Daedra Charles (No. 32). Lady Vol Head Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt also had a banner raised in her honor this season on January 28th prior to the game with Notre Dame. «Read the rest of this article»

University of Tennessee to retire Dale Ellis’ Jersey in ceremony next year

 

UT VolsKnoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary men’s basketball player Dale Ellis by retiring his No. 14 jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee athletics department announced Thursday.

Ellis – a two-time first-team All-American – will become the fourth player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. He joins Bernard King (No. 53), Ernie Grunfeld (No. 22) and Allan Houston (No. 20).

Governor’s Holt selected first-team All-American by College Sporting News

 

Austin Peay State University’s electrifying junior running back/kick returner Terrence Holt has earned his second Division I Football Championship Subdivision All-America honor.

The College Sporting News has named the Nashville native as its first-team all-purpose back on the 2009 FCS Fabulous Fifty All-American Team. Just last week, Holt was named second-team FCS All-America all-purpose back by The Sports Network.

Unlike other All-American teams, the CSN honor’s squad is designed to be comprised like a real team, capable of taking the field and competing in a game.
