Martin, TN | Arena: Elam Center (4,800)

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay enters the final weekend in a position it never saw coming.

In fact, the Governors need a win this weekend–or an Eastern Illinois loss–to assure its 28th straight appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. The last time the Govs failed to appear in an OVC tourney? George Orwell’s favorite year…1984.

The Governors were picked to finish first in the OVC, but after losing center John Fraley in the season’s first game with a concussion for nine straight games, they never seemed to recover.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball suffers fifth straight loss in 52-48 heartbreaker to the Morehead State Eagles

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Basketball

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – With his team mired in a four-game losing streak, Austin Peay State University head coach Dave Loos turned to his bench for a spark, giving reserve guards Herdie Lawrence and Alton Williams their fifth and first career starts.

Unfortunately for Loos and the Austin Peay Governors, the extra spark would not be enough to keep the Govs from squandering a 4-point lead over the game’s final three minutes as the Govs fell 52-48 to Morehead State Wednesday night.

Melvin Baker positions himself under the goal during the Austin Peay Governors 52-48 loss to the Morehead State Eagles Wednesday night. Baker was the Governors leading scorer with 17 points.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball suffers worst defeat of season in 94-55 loss to the Belmont Bruins

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Basketball

Clarksville Sports NetworkNashville, TN – For the second time in as many weeks, the Austin Peay Governors made a trip to Nashville Tennessee for a rare Monday night game.

And, unfortunately for the Govs, a raucous road environment led to an uninspired performance for the second time in as many weeks as the Govs committed 21 turnovers in a 94-55 to future OVC conference member Belmont Monday night.

Playing a rematch of a game the Bruins won 77-67 in Clarksville on December 21st, the Govs (9-17, 6-6 OVC) never looked remotely competitive in the return matchup.
