Clarksville, TN – The local high school wrestling season comes to a close this week, adding significance to the last district duals. Thursday, the Northwest Vikings hosted what was scheduled to be a quad meet, but ended up being a short triangular meet with the Beech Buccaneers and the Clarksville High Wildcats.
At the end of the night, it was the Buccaneers and the Wildcats who picked up important wins. The Wildcats split the night, losing to the Buccaneers, then finishing with a win over the Vikings.
Hendersonville, TN – Rossview High School’s soccer team saw its season come to an end, October 20th at Drake Creek Park’s Field of Dreams, with a 6-2 loss to District 9-AAA champion Hendersonville High School.
The Lady Hawks (8-6-1) had trailed 3-0 at one point in the first half, but cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 50th minute on a goal by Kayla Grimes.
The two goals by Rossview were the most given up by Hendersonville since it gave up six goals versus Franklin High School on September 25th.
Clarksville Lady Wildcats Soccer Advances to Regional Finals with 4-0 Win over Beech Lady Buccaneers
Clarksville, TN – The 2014 Class AAA Girls Soccer Regional Tournament Semi-Finals started Monday at Clarksville High, School with a rematch of the Lady Wildcats against the Beech Lady Buccaneers. In August, the Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Bucs 4-2.
At some point during the regional tournament game Monday, the teams must have experienced déjà vu because the Lady Wildcats scored four goals again to defeat the Lady Bucs 4-0.
The teams appeared even early in the game. It looked as if the Lady Bucs were going to take the offensive advantage when junior Kendon Curtis received a long lob pass, sprinted by her defender and then sidestepped the Lady Wildcats charging goalkeeper, Melia Correa, for a shot on the wide open net. However, Curtis stumbled while taking the shot and missed.
West Creek (37-13), the number-one seed out of District 10-AAA lost to Beech High School (34-7) in five games, 21-25, 25-16, 25-10, 21-25 and 15-11; while Clarksville High (16-7) – the number-two seed from 10-AAA lost in four games to Portland High School (31-16) by scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-10.
Clarksville, TN – Rossview High School’s volleyball team almost saw a 2-0 lead disappear, Thursday, September 4th in its District 10-AAA matchup versus Northeast High School, but the Lady Hawks rallied to score eight of the final nine points in game four to come away with a 3-1 win be scores of 25-16, 25-19, 15-25 and 25-23.
After winning the first two games comfortably, the Lady Hawks (7-5, 4-2 District 10-AAA) saw the Lady Eagles come out quickly in the third game and score the first four points to never trail in the contest that they won by 10 points, 25-15.
Clarksville, TN – Trailing for the first time this season with its ace Donny Everett on the mound, May 12th in the opening round of the Region 5-AAA tournament, Clarksville High School’s baseball team rallied to defeat the Beech High School Buccaneers 5-3 to reach the regional finals.
The victory also earns the Wildcats (29-5) a berth into the May 16th Sectional Tournament, where a win puts them into the TSSAA State Tournament field.
But it didn’t look early on like it may be the Wildcats night, with the Buccaneers (18-18) putting up single runs in both the first and third innings off Everett (11-0) – both coming off doubles by Isaac Robertson, driving in Jared Knight in the first and Jesse McKay in the third.
The Lady Wildcat’s outstanding starting pitcher, Heather Norris, got a complete game shutout victory with the help of some excellent defense played by her teammates.
“I was proud of the girls. I thought defensively, that was the best defense they played all year,” Lady Wildcat’s head coach Brian Rush said. “There were a lot of bang-bang plays and our girls never flinched.”
Clarksville, TN – Behind two first-inning runs and a strong pitching performance from Donny Everett, May 7th, Clarksville High School’s baseball team defeated three-time defending District 10-AAA champion Rossview High School, 2-0.
With the victory, Clarksville High (28-5) will host a first-round Region 5-AAA game at 7:00pm, on May 12th, facing the runner-up of the District 9-AAA tournament between Beech High School and Wilson Central High School, while Rossview (22-12-1) travels to the 9-AAA winner.
The Eagles soared to an 8-2 victory over the Beech Buccaneers in the tournament Friday, April 18th. The took the lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. By the fourth they were up 5-2 and never looked back.
Clarksville, TN – Down 7-0 after five innings, the Beech Buccaneers baseball team scored four runs in the sixth in a rally to at least tie the Clarksville High Wildcats Saturday, March 22nd, in the second game of a doubleheader at Clarksville High.
However, the Buccaneers rally came up short and the Wildcats won 7-5, improving to an undefeated 8-0 record.
Wildcats starting pitcher, Teal Young, held the Buccaneers scoreless during his five innings on the mound. Young finished the day allowing only 3 hits and striking out three.
