Austin Peay State University football team begins its 2015 regular season campaign 4:00pm, Saturday, when the Govs host Mercer at Governors Stadium—the first time Austin Peay has opened the regular season at home since 2010. Entering head coach Kirby Cannon‘s third season, a still-youthful Austin Peay squad looks to pull the Governors out of a tailspin that’s seen them in the Ohio Valley Conference cellar for the better part of the decade.

Austin Peay’s 79 honorees were among a record 1,279 student-athletes recognized for their performance in the classroom, topping last year’s 1,255 honorees. “I want to congratulate each of the student-athletes who earned recognition on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll,” said interim athletics director Cheryl Holt. “This award recognizes their hard work in the classroom throughout the year. I also want to thank our coaching staffs and academic support staff for their support of our student-athletes academic goals.”

APSU has 37 Student-Athletes achieve perfect 4.0 GPAs in Spring SemesterAustin Peay Sports Information
Those 37 student-athletes were among 159 named to the Spring 2015 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing more than half (52.3 percent) of the department’s student-athletes. In addition, 83 student-athletes were named to Austin Peay’s dean’s list. The department finished both the spring semester and 2014-15 academic year with a 2.88 GPA.
