Austin Peay State University football team begins its 2015 regular season campaign 4:00pm, Saturday, when the Govs host Mercer at Governors Stadium—the first time Austin Peay has opened the regular season at home since 2010.
Entering head coach Kirby Cannon‘s third season, a still-youthful Austin Peay squad looks to pull the Governors out of a tailspin that’s seen them in the Ohio Valley Conference cellar for the better part of the decade.
Clarksville, TN – A pair of senior Austin Peay State University football players, offensive tackle Ben Stansfield and defensive lineman Iosua Siliva, have been named to the 16th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team.
Knoxville, TN – The curtain will rise on the Kirby Cannon Era, 5:00pm, Saturday, when Austin Peay State University plays Tennessee for the first time in program history.
Cannon, who was hired as Austin Peay’s 18th head coach in mid-March, is only the third APSU coach hired in the last 50 years that owned previous college-coaching head-coaching experience.

The Govs won their last home game – a 56-0 spanking of Culver-Stockton – and look to make it two in a row in Clarksville. Saturday also represents Austin Peay’s last chance to earn an Ohio Valley Conference victory in 2012.

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay will step away from Ohio Valley Conference play in search of its first win when it plays host to Culver-Stockton, 1:00pm, Saturday, at Governors Stadium.
The Wildcats, an NAIA team located in Canton, MO, enter the contest with a 1-8 overall record, but are winless (0-8) in the Heart of American Athletic Conference. They are coming off a 29-9 loss to Baker, the 14th-ranked team in NAIA.

Clarksville, TN – It was a play that was a microcosm of the season.
Trailing 38-7 late in the third quarter, Saturday afternoon in Governors Stadium, Austin Peay State University’s football team had erased a large part of its 31-point deficit. With the score 41-27 and the Govs sitting on the Southeast Missouri two-yard line with a little less than 3:30 left in the game, Jake Ryan handed off to Reco Williams-one of the central figures in the Govs comeback.

Since rejoining the Ohio Valley Conference the Governors own a 1-2 record against Murray State. The Govs lost in Murray, 27-17, in 2009.
Austin Peay enters the contest on a six-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a six-game losing streak five times since the new millennium, the longest losing streak (eight games) coming in the 2003 season.
Senior running back Terrence Holt made his first career start at running back against UT Martin. Even though he has shared the running back duties with Ryan White for the past two seasons, the latter always has drawn the starting nod until last Saturday.

Clarksville, TN – Since rejoining the Ohio Valley Conference the Governors own a 1-1 record against Eastern Illinois. The Govs won 15-13 in Charleston two years ago but lost at home 30-20 last season.
Austin Peay enters the contest on a four-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a four-game losing streak in seven of the last eight seasons.
Austin Peay comes into the game ranked 111th (out of 117 teams) or higher in four defensive categories–rushing defense (117th/260.00 ypg), total defense (113th/455.43 ypg), scoring defense (116th/40.86 ppg) and sacks (115th/.71).
