Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior outfielder Patrick Massoni, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Massoni was a catalyst from the lead-off spot last week for the Governors, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with a home run, two doubles, dour RBI and four runs scored as Austin Peay opened its Ohio Valley Conference scheduled with a sweep of Eastern Illinois.

The Danville, CA, native opened the series with a 5-for-5 effort – the first five-hit game by a Governor since Reed Harper in 2013 – that included a solo home run and a double, driving in two in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader.

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team opens its 2015 regular season Friday, February 13th versus Niagara looking to get off to a good start in what hopes to be a return to the top of the Ohio Valley Conference after suffering growing pains and injuries in 2014.

The Governors had 13 freshmen on last years’ squad, including eight that played significant time, which led to some growing pains for a team that had won the conference’s tournament the three previous seasons.

APSU Governors Baseball has four players named to Louisville Slugger All-America Teams

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsTuscon, AZ – Four Austin Peay State University baseball players were named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger All-America Teams as selected by Collegiate Baseball June 30th.

Junior first baseman Craig Massoni and senior outfielder Cody Hudson were second-team All-America selections – the program’s first second-team honorees since pitcher Rowdy Hardy earned second team honors in 2005.

Austin Peay State University Baseball’s Craig Massoni, Tyler Rogers sweep OVC Postseason Awards

 

Austin Peay State UniversityJackson, TN – For the third time in program history Austin Peay State University’s baseball team can celebrate a sweep of the Ohio Valley Conference’s top awards. Junior first baseman Craig Massoni was named the league’s Player of the Year and senior closer Tyler Rogers was named its Pitcher of the Year at the annual OVC Baseball Awards Banquet held Tuesday night.

“I’m not sure I have a word that is good enough to describe what these two men meant to our team,” said Austin Peay head coach Gary McClure. “Having Tyler involved in 27 decisions over 42 wins is incredible. And on the other hand, Craig was a guy who hit almost .500 in league play and didn’t do it with singles – he did it with doubles and home runs.

APSU Baseball has record Six Govs earn 1st Team All-OVC honors

 

Austin Peay State UniversityJackson, TN – A program-record six Austin Peay State University baseball players were recognized as the Ohio Valley Conference’s best player at their respective positions, receiving first-team All-OVC recognition, Tuesday night, at the OVC’s Annual Baseball Awards Banquet.

In addition to the six first-team honorees, which broke the program record set in 1996, Austin Peay saw two players receive second-team recognition. The eight total honorees ties the program record set in 1996.

Ohio Valley ConferenceClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University first baseman Craig Massoni was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s “Player of the Week,” Monday.

Massoni, of Danville, CA, batted .385 in three games last week, with a home run and seven RBI. The bulk of his week’s effort came in a monstrous 3-for-4, six RBI outing against Southern Illinois, Tuesday.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball adds Columbia State Pitcher D.W. Whitson to wrap up the 2013 Recruiting Class

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team put the finishing touches on its 2013 recruiting class with the addition of right-handed pitcher D.W. Whitson from Columbia State Community College.

The 6-5, 195-pound Whitson posted an 8-2 record and 3.41 ERA last season for Columbia State. He recorded 41 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched over 13 appearances. That mark included allowing only one run in a complete-game victory against Southwest Tennessee in the Region VII Tournament’s third round. He pitched sparingly as a freshman for the Chargers, seeing action in 15 innings over eight games and finishing 0-1 with a 2.40 ERA. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay Governors Baseball adds seven during Spring Signing Period

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN  – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team added seven signees during the spring signing period, bringing the 2013 class to 15 players in total, head coach Gary McClure announced, Monday.

Signing a national letter of intent to join the Govs in 2013 were right-handed pitcher Kevin Corey, of Los Gatos, CA; right-handed pitcher Tyler Crawford, of Seymour, TN; catcher Michael Davis, of Savannah, TN; utility player Craig Massoni, of Danville, CA.; right-handed pitcher Chase Morris, of Tullahoma, TN; right-handed pitcher Lee Ridenhour, of Lenexa, KS; and Kyle Schlatter, of Overland Park, KS.
