Four inducted into APSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class Saturday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Four Austin Peay State University athletic legends were enshrined in the APSU Athletics Hall of Fame, Saturday, during a breakfast ceremony in the Dunn Center front lobby.

Chelsea Harris, the greatest women’s golfer in program history; Drake Reed, an all-time great who conquered the OVC during one of the most dominant eras of APSU basketball; and Ron Sebree, a vaunted lineman for the 1977 Ohio Valley Conference football team, were inducted along with the late Tom Lincoln, a star on the hardwood and the gridiron in the late 1940s, who was this year’s Honors category recipient.

They became the 115th, 116th, 117th and 118th members of the APSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

APSU Athlete of the Week Breigh Jones

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior Breigh Jones, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Jones staked her claim as the best sprinter in the Ohio Valley Conference, posting wins in the 60m (7.64) and 200m (25.05) dashes at last weekend’s SIU Invitational. The Memphis, TN native also posted a strong leg in the Lady Govs’ eventual runner-up posting in the 4x400m relay (3:54.09).

Austin Peay State University Basketball Bash draws more than 200 Govs, Lady Govs fans

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – More than 200 Austin Peay State University basketball fans attended the annual Basketball Bash, Saturday night, at the Bud Barn on the Charles Hand Farm.

Sponsored by the Governors Club, each ticket bearer was served a KC steak dinner along homemade desserts. Proceeds from the event are dedicated to summer school scholarships and housing in both programs’ efforts to graduate their respective players on time.

2003-04 APSU Governors team honored during Basketball Reunion Weekend

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University held its basketball reunion, Saturday, recognizing former players for both the Governors and Lady Govs programs.

In fact, former basketball Govs dated back from the 1950s (Chet Garrett, 1956-58) to the present day Governors at the morning brunch as both the current Lady Govs and Governors got to meet players who were responsible for the respective program’s rich tradition, including members from the first Ohio Valley Conference team (1963-64).

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay hopes a late-season break from Ohio Valley Conference action can help get the Govs back on track as Youngstown State comes to town, 7:30pm, Saturday for the Sears BracketBusters contest.

The Govs are amidst a five-game losing streak after dropping an unseemly 52-48 decision, Wednesday. After permitting more than 70 points in five straight games, the Govs encountered other issues against Morehead State.

Austin Peay travels to Murray State, 7:30pm, Saturday, looking to snap a three game losing streak that saw the Govs lose, 94-55, Monday at Belmont. Meanwhile, the Racers saw their 23-game winning streak end at home to Tennessee State, Thursday.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – The Austin Peay Governors travel to Nashville Tennessee to take on the Belmont Bruins at the Curb Event Center Monday night starting at 7:00pm.

The Govs will have to deal with the two-headed inside monster of 6-9 Mick Hedgepth and 6-10 Scott Saunders for Belmont. The latter scored 23 against the Governors in their first meeting, a 77-67 Bruins victory in Clarksville back in December.
