APSU Women's TennisNashville, TN – Three members of Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team were honored by the Ohio Valley Conference, highlighted by Lidia Yanes Garcia earning an unprecedented third straight OVC Player of the Year award, as announced Thursday by the league office.

Yanes Garcia, who was also named to her third consecutive First-Team All-OVC, is the first player in conference history to be named Player of the Year three times.

APSU Men’s Tennis’ Almantas Ozelis named to First Team All OVC

APSU Men's TennisNashville, TNAlmantas Ozelis, of Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team, was named First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference, as announced Thursday by the league office.

The selection marks Ozelis’s second straight year being named to an All-OVC team, as he was named to the Second Team last year.

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team junior guard Josh Robinson has been named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference via a vote of league coaches and sports information directors.

A St. Louis native, Robinson averaged 20.3 points per game—the first Governor since Drake Reed (2008-09) to average 20 per contest for an entire season—to finish third in the league.

Instant Peay Play: Former APSU softball standout Lauren de Castro helps former high school to state title in California

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – Lauren de Castro, just a year removed from a three-time First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference softball career at Austin Peay State University, put her playing experience to work this spring in being a part of the coaching staff at Torrance (CA) High School and winning the CIF Southern Section Division 4 title.

The tournament victory was the first CIF Southern Section title for the Torrance Tartars (27-9) since 1991 and would translate to winning a state championship title game in the Tennessee State Secondary Athletic Association (TSSAA).

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUJackson, TN – Sophomore Alex Robles, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, was twice named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference in a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

The honors were presented at the annual OVC baseball awards banquet, Tuesday night, before the start of the 2015 OVC Baseball Championship at The Ball Park at Jackson.

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – With the top three offensive leaders from last season lost to graduation, including three-time first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference performer Lauren de Castro, this year’s Austin Peay softball team was going to have to have several players step up and do their best to replace those numbers lost to graduation.

One of those that have answered the need has been sophomore first baseman Christiana Gable, who has proven through the first half of the season to be among the best in being able to drive runs in when the opportunities presents themselves.

Austin Peay Football’s Amius Smith named First-Team All-OVC, Ryan White earns Second-Team Honors

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – Senior weak safety Amius Smith, of the Austin Peay State University football team, was named first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference, while senior running back Ryan White was selected second-team, the league announced, Tuesday.

“These two guys have been good football players for us over the past four years,” head coach Rick Christophel said. “They’ve both been fun guys to coach and have been leaders for our program. I’m proud to see them getting recognized.”

Harris earns first-team All-OVC golf for third straight

Austin Peay State University GovernorsDickson, TN – Senior Austin Peay State University golfer Chelsea Harris has selected first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference for a third straight year.

Her selection was announced Thursday night at the annual banquet following first-round OVC tournament play, for a second straight year being played at GreyStone Golf Club.

Murray State’s Delaney Howson has been named the 2010-11 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year for women’s golf. That award, along with the All-OVC and All-Newcomer squads, were announced Thursday. The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be announced Saturday afternoon following the final-round play at the championship.
