American Red Cross needs Healthy Donors to maintain Blood Supply

 

American Red CrossNashville, TN – As influenza activity picks up this fall, the American Red Cross is urging healthy donors of all blood types to give blood or platelets to ensure a strong blood supply for patients in need. Blood and platelets can only be given by donors who are feeling well.

American Heart Association says Regular Flu Shots may save Heart Failure Patients’ Lives

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – Getting an annual flu shot can save heart failure patients’ lives, according to new research in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation. 

Flu season usually begins in the fall and runs through the spring, with cases often peaking during the winter months. Annual flu vaccination is regarded as a safe, low-cost way to reduce flu-related deaths and complications and is routinely recommended for patients with histories of heart disease and stroke.

Compared with skipping a flu shot, getting a flu shot was associated with an 18 percent reduced risk of premature death among newly-diagnosed heart failure patients. (American Heart Association)

Blanchfield Army Hospital - BACH - Fort Campbell KYFort Campbell, KY – Blanchfield Army Community Hospital’s Preventive Medicine Department will provide flu vaccines for beneficiaries at five community outreach events, beginning October 14th, 2017.

The vaccine is available to all TRICARE beneficiaries age six months or older, including Soldiers, Retirees and Family members with a military ID card. Beneficiaries must present their military ID when getting their vaccine in order to confirm eligibility.

Tennessee Department of Health - TDOHJohnson City, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam rolled up his sleeve today in Johnson City for his annual flu shot. In doing so, the governor took an important step to protect himself, his friends, family members and others from getting influenza.

During a mid-day stop at the Tennessee Department of Health Northeast Regional Health Office, Governor Haslam said he hoped more Tennesseans would be vaccinated soon so they can reduce their risks of getting the flu themselves or possibly transmitting it to others.
