Your humble narrator spent a lot of time sitting and staring at the flashing cursor after the dateline in the Word document before trying vainly to describe what we collectively witnessed Saturday afternoon at Fortera Stadium.

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team didn’t just beat Jacksonville State. The Govs took the perennial Ohio Valley Conference favorite to the woodshed in a game that was never in doubt after the first half.

APSU Football hold second fall practice, Saturday

 

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – On Saturday morning, August 3rd, 2019 the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team hit the turf at Fortera Stadium for the second practice of fall camp.

“Bring Em Out” blared through the stadium’s sound system as the student-athletes and coaches hustled onto the field to begin the second day of work in preparation for the 2019 season.

APSU Governors student-athletes set department record with 3.15 GPA in Fall 2018

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes set a department record with a 3.15 grade-point average for the Fall 2018 semester.

For the first time, Austin Peay student-athletes have posted a department-wide GPA of 3.0 or greater in three consecutive semesters. A record 209 student-athletes received academic recognition for the Fall 2018 semester, including 107 recognized on the dean’s list. It’s the third time 100 or more student athletes have been named to the dean’s list.

APSU Football fall to Southeast Missouri in final seconds

APSU FootballCape Girardeau, MO – In a game that went down to the final play, Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) football team simply ran out of time in their bid to spoil Southeast Missouri’s Homecoming, falling 31-27 despite another outstanding afternoon on the ground.

Austin Peay (3-4, 1-3 OVC) racked up 226 yards rushing on 41 carries for a tidy 5.5 yards per rush; three Govs averaged eight yards per carry as the Govs continually found space between the tackles and off the edges against Southeast Missouri (4-2, 2-1).

“I thought the back and forth was really good, which is what you want to see during a spring game,” said head coach Will Healy.

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – On Homecoming 2017, Austin Peay State University football fans are going to party like it’s 2008.

That was the last time the Governors won a Homecoming contest. Heavy emphasis on the “was” part of that phrase, as the Governors vanquished Southeast Missouri, 38-31, at Fortera Stadium, with a quick-strike offense that seemingly had the Redhawks number all night.

APSU Football comes from behind to beat Tennessee State 21-17

APSU FootballNashville, TN – This was the only way it could end.

After a heart-rending loss to Tennessee State on a last-second play a year ago, the only possible way to exorcise those demons was to stand tall and fend off the Tigers in the exact same scenario this season.

And that’s exactly what Austin Peay State University football did Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference play at Nissan Stadium, making a late score stand up in a 21-17 victory—Austin Peay’s first against Tennessee State since 2011.
