Lady Govs Open 2011 Campaign at AlabamaAPSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball
The Lady Govs will meet host Alabama in a 7:00pm, Friday, before facing Alabama State (10:00am) and Texas State (3:00pm), Saturday. Lady Govs golf team earns OVC Team Academic Achievement Award for third straight yearAPSU Sports
The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. Lady Govs to face Fighting Illini in first-ever NCAA Volleyball Tournament AppearanceAPSU Women’s Volleyball
It is Austin Peay’s first-ever trip to the NCAA championship tournament. The Lady Govs earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic berth after winning the league’s championship tournament, November 20th. Austin Peay clinched its second-ever OVC tournament title – and first since 1991 – with a four-set victory against regular-season champion Morehead State which was hosting the tournament. The Lady Govs defeated sixth-seeded Tennessee Tech in a four-set semifinal contest. Lady Govs volleyball sees eight-match win streak end at LouisvilleAPSU Women’s Volleyball
The first two sets were wire-to-wire affairs. Louisville (22-7) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set only to watch Austin Peay (26-7) battle back to tie the set at both 6-6 and 7-7. However, the Lady Govs could not take the lead and the Cardinals scored six of the nine points to take a three-point, 12-9 lead.
