Nashville Sounds lose road game against Reno Aces, 4-3

Nashville SoundsReno, NV – The Nashville Sounds started their eight-game road trip with a 4-3 loss to the Reno Aces at Greater Nevada Field Thursday night.

After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Sounds surrendered four unanswered runs to drop their fourth consecutive game.

Starters Frankie Montas and Jake Buchanan matched zeroes through the first two innings before the Sounds broke through against Buchanan in the third.

Melvin Mercedes started the rally with a one-out double, and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Jaff Decker’s RBI groundout gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead. They weren’t done as four consecutive two-out hits plated another two runs.

Nashville Sounds split doubleheader at Iowa Cubs

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds split their doubleheader with the Iowa Cubs losing 3-0 in game one and taking game two 7-4 Thursday night at Principal Park.

The Sounds took the early 1-0 lead in game two when Joey Wendle batted home Matt Olson on a RBI fielder’s choice in the second inning. The Sounds then plated four runs in the third, highlighted by a bases clearing three-run double from Matt McBride to put the Sounds up 4-0. Wendle then singled up the middle to score McBride from second to put the Sounds up 5-0.

Nashville Sounds fall at Iowa Cubs 3-2

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds dropped the series opener to the Iowa Cubs as the offense went quiet in a 3-2 loss Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park.

The Sounds (43-30) managed just five hits and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position against three Iowa (33-36) pitchers.

Starters Chris Jensen for Nashville, and Jake Buchanan for Iowa, each threw quality starts but Buchanan was better by a slim margin. The right-hander limited the Sounds to one run on just three hits over his six innings in a winning effort. Jensen was charged with the loss after he allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings.

Nashville Sounds fall to late Iowa Cubs rally at First Tennessee Park

 

Cubs Score Three Runs in the Eighth to Grab Series Win

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Iowa Cubs scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning on their way to a 4-1 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of 5,857 fans at First Tennessee Park Thursday night.

In a 1-1 game, Kristopher Negron led off the eighth with a triple to the right-center gap off of Nashville reliever J.B. Wendelken. Moments later, Munenori Kawasaki singled to right to score Negron and give the Cubs a 2-1 lead.

Wendelken came back to strike out John Andreoli for the second out, but then allowed a run-scoring triple to Albert Almora Jr. On the next pitch, Wendelken uncorked a wild pitch to allow Almora to score and make it 4-1.
