Austin Peay State University Men’s Basketball travels to Nashville Sunday to face Lipscomb Bisons

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team will attempt to take momentum into the Christmas holidays when it travels to Allen Arena, 2:00pm, Sunday, to face Lipscomb.

This will be the second time in eight days the two teams have met. A week ago Saturday the Bisons came to Clarksville and defeated the Govs, 69-58.

The Final Horne with James HorneClarksville, TN – Every city is known for something and its fair to say Clarksville is know for many things. Tobacco, Wilma Rudolph, Fort Campbell, Harry Galbreath, the 1999 Tornado, Mason Rudolph and Austin Peay (the governor and the university), are just a few.

Clarksville’s nicknames have ranged from: The Queen City, Queen of the Cumberland, Gateway to the New South to the current Tennessee’s Top Spot.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball head back on road to Lipscomb seeking first win

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – Austin Peay will see plenty of familiar faces when the Govs travel to Nashville, 6:30pm, Monday to face Lipscomb.

Four of Lipscomb’s players–freshman starting point guard Zavion Williams; redshirt freshman forward Damarius Smith, brother of Austin Peay football player Amius Smith, and twin brothers Malcolm and Martin Smith–are from Clarksville. Williams is having little trouble in his transition to Division I, averaging 16.2 ppg to go with 2.3 steals and 3.7 assists per game. In fact, the local quartet can be found playing summer pickup games in Clarksville with the Governors.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders roll past Austin Peay Governors Basketball

 

APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Middle Tennessee blistered Austin Peay State University’s defense with 65 percent shooting and rolled past the Governors, 90-70, in non-conference basketball action at Dave Aaron Arena, Saturday night.

The loss drops the Governors 0-7 on the season, their worst start since the 1993-94 season. It was Austin Peay’s home opener.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay is literally back to where it started. And the Governors hope to find a better answer the second time around.,

For the second time in a little more than two weeks, the Govs will face old rival Middle Tennessee. On November 11th, the Govs opened the 2011-12 season with a 80-71 loss in Murfreesboro.

Saturday’s 7:00pm contest will serve as an opener of a second sort for APSU-the home opener.

Clarksville Academy announces Resignation of Head Basketball Coach

 

Josh SmithThe Clarksville AcademyClarksville, TN – Head of Schools at Clarksville Academy, Kay Drew is saddened to announce the resignation of Josh Smith as Head Boys Basketball Coach.  Smith has been head coach at CA for six years and took the Cougars to their first State Championship. 

“This was a tough decision for me to make and one I thought about a lot. In the end it was best for my family for me to take a break from coaching. I love CA and will continue to teach, but felt I needed a break from coaching.” stated Smith on Friday.  Smith was offered a contract for 2011-2012 to continue teaching US History, World History and Government and to return as Head Boys Basketball Coach. «Read the rest of this article»
