Not only will teams be racing for bragging rights, but trophies will also be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams in each division.

Competition will be in five divisions: Adult Open, Business and Industry, Church/Civic, City Department and Military. Stephen Kemmer, U.S. Bank Community President and District Manager, and his team plan to race their boat in the Business and Industry division.

Riverfest – Council Boat Race and More

by Councilman Bill Summers

Riverfest 2010Just a reminder that Riverfest starts today and runs through tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning, around 9:30am, the annual cardboard racing schedule will take place at the river. The city council is a heavy favorite with their new big, bad and bodacious “Dragon” boat to beat all comers in the city department division race. The “Dragon” will be waiting at the finish line to feast on the half-sunken carcasses of their competition as they slowly float by. Four council members, to include myself, will be rowing the “Dragon”.  Come and have a laugh and see who wins, sinks or never makes it from the dock.

There will be plenty of music, food and fun for everyone. Around dark on Saturday, a lighted boat parade will also take place.

So come on down and hopefully the rain will stay away. Check out this website for more details: www.clarksvilleriverfest.com

Hope to see you there.

Summer is winding down for youth in the community, and school will soon begin.  But, Parks and Recreation believes all the fun does not have to end with the season.  That is why we are keeping two of the city pools open after the school year begins.  Bel-Aire and Swan Lake pools will remain open until August 9 allowing kids and families to enjoy another week of summer swimming.  Beachaven, Smith and New Providence will close August 2.
