Austin Peay Governors Football hires veteran Pat Donohoe as new defensive line coach

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Pat Donohoe, who has nearly 25 years experience as a Division I football assistant coach, has been named the new defensive line coach at Austin Peay State University.

He replaces Ryan Taylor who left earlier this spring for a high school position in Nashville, TN.

Donohoe returns to coaching after spending the last six years in the private sector. However, prior to that he served 10 seasons as defensive line coach at UAB, working with APSU coach Rick Christophel during his tenure. Football Govs set to report Sunday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – With 46 returning letterwinners leading the way, Austin Peay State University’s football team will report to camp, Sunday, as the Governors prepare for the 2011 football season.

“I can’t wait to see them here on campus,” APSU coach Rick Christophel said. “I am anxious to see our older guys, how much they have improved, and also see the new guys, to see how they are going to fit in. We still are waiting on some of the recruits to get cleared by the (NCAA) Clearinghouse, but hopefully we can get most everybody in.”

Gary Shephard joins Govs Football Staff as Linebackers Coach

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head football coach Rick Christophel announced the addition of longtime coaching-cohort and APSU alum Gary Shephard as the team’s new assistant coach, Wednesday. Shephard will take over as linebackers coach effective immediately.

Adding Shephard means reorganizing the defensive coaching staff, and Christophel is pleased with the moves it will allow to him make. Granville Eastman will move from linebackers to the secondary, while also remaining the team’s defensive coordinator. Governors to scrimmage Saturday for first time this Spring

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s football team will scrimmage for the first time this spring, Saturday morning, in Governors Stadium.

The Govs will hit the field 9:00am, with the scrimmage starting approximately 20 minutes later. APSU is planning on running somewhere between 75-80 plays in seven-play increments. The scrimmage will conclude APSU’s second week of spring practice.

Trent named Govs football offensive line coach

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Head football coach Rick Christophel has named Tyler Trent as Austin Peay State University’s offensive line coach, announced Thursday afternoon prior to the second day of spring practice.

He replaces his former mentor, Steve Haywood, who resigned last week to pursue a high school coaching position in Nashville. Combined with the timing off that announcement and the start of spring football practice, Christophel was seeking someone who had knowledge of the Govs system to prevent any lapse in spring preparation and production, especially with a deep, but young group of offensive linemen returning. «Read the rest of this article»
