Clarksville Historic Urban Trails Brought to Life

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Local historian Carolyn Ferrell and Montgomery County IT ArcGIS Specialist Bryce Hester teamed up to bring three historic urban trails to life in Clarksville.

An urban trail is not a built path through natural scenery but a virtual trail that uses existing sidewalks and crosswalks to lead walkers through a route of interesting urban sights.

The trails Ferrell laid out entices walkers with open-air history lessons packed with interesting historical tidbits about Clarksville’s past.

4th of July Holiday Safety Tips from LBL Law Enforcement

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area suggest making safety precautions as much of a summer tradition as fireworks on the Fourth of July.

More Camping and Lake Access Opportunities Return to LBL

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Camping and lake access opportunities are returning to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area as flood waters recede.  Lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are currently at 362.3 feet and dropping. 

The majority of campsites are open at Energy Lake Campground; all sites will open by May 20th. Hillman Ferry Campground and Piney Campground expect to open most walk-in sites and reservation sites on May 20th. Each seasonal camper at Hillman Ferry and Piney will be contacted individually as their site becomes available. Areas C, D, and E at Wranglers Campground are open for reservations. There are a very limited amount of walk-in sites available (call campground for availability, 270-924-2200).  Wranglers Riding Stables is open, as well as a significant portion of horseback riding trails. LBL Campgrounds Opening as Flood Waters Recede

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Camping and Lake Access opportunities are returning as flood waters recede at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.  Lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake are currently at 366.4 feet and dropping. 

The majority of campsites are open at Energy Lake Campground; all sites will open by May 20th.  Hillman Ferry Campground expects to open reservations sites on May 20th, and have all seasonal sites open by May 28th; walk-in sites may not be available until after May 28th. Piney Campground expects to open to seasonal campers May 19th, and have reservation sites open by May 20th. Flooding at Land Between The Lakes

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Tennessee Valley Authority and the Corps of Engineers are predicting unprecedented lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. The current lake levels are 372.5 feet and are rising. Predictions vary due to continuing rainfall. These lake levels have caused flooding along all of Land Between The Lakes (LBL) shoreline.

Staff has closed all LBL boat ramps, campgrounds, lakeside campsites, trails, and roads. These areas are barricaded and closed for safety of all visitors. Citations will be issued to anyone found beyond barricaded areas. Star Camp will be temporarily open for camping with a Backcountry Camping Permit. «Read the rest of this article»

Rapidly Rising Lake Levels Create More Impacts at LBL

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Tennessee Valley Authority and the Corps of Engineers are predicting unprecedented lake levels for Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake rapidly rising to 372 feet by May 4th (13 feet over summer pool) and will be held at this level for a couple of days.  The current lake levels are 367.4 feet and are predicted to rise to 370.7 feet by Sunday, May 1st. 

These lake levels have caused flooding along all of Land Between The Lakes (LBL) shoreline. As of today, LBL staff closed all boat ramps, and lakeside campsites, trails, and roads. All developed campgrounds will be closed by Sunday, May 1st.  These areas will be barricaded and closed for safety of all visitors.  Citations will be issued to anyone found beyond barricaded areas. The current lake level is 363.5 feet and is predicted to rise to 368 feet by Saturday.

The current lake level is 359.9 feet. This will greatly impact boat ramps, campsites (campgrounds, backcountry areas, and self-service areas), trails, and roads within LBL. Impacted areas will be barricaded and closed.

The lake level for Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley is currently at 362’ (summer pool is 359’) and is predicted to crest on Saturday at 363.5’.
