APSU Beach Volley to host Ohio Valley Challenge

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University beach volleyball team is set to host the Ohio Valley Challenge, Friday and Saturday.

The two-day, six-team affair will see Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman and Spring Hill College make the trip to Clarksville for the first tournament on the newly christened Govs Beach Volleyball Complex.

Donor Naming Rights for APSU Athletics Facilities Approved

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University president Dr. Alisa White and athletics director Ryan Ivey announced progress toward athletics facility improvements and the Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees approved facility naming designations during its March 9th meeting. 

Joe and Cathi Maynard will be recognized for their contributions and pledged contributions to the athletics department at both Raymond C. Hand Park and Cheryl Holt Field, the university’s baseball and softball facilities respectively. The baseball field will be known as the Joe and Cathi Maynard Baseball Field and the softball facility will be known as the Joe and Cathi Maynard Softball Stadium.

APSU honors distinguished individuals with alumni awards at Homecoming

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – During a special alumni awards ceremony on Saturday, October 21st, 2017, Austin Peay State University honored six distinguished individuals as part of its 2017 Homecoming celebration.

This year’s honorees were Outstanding Service Award recipients Joe Shakeenab (’04) and Dave Loos; Outstanding Young Alumnus Award recipients Trent Caffee (’11) and John Swigart (’00); and Outstanding Alumni Award recipients Steve Harmon (’83) and Mike Krause (’07).

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – A quartet of Governors with ties to the Austin Peay State University athletics department will be honored at the 2017 Homecoming Alumni Awards Brunch, October 21st, 2017 at Morgan University Center Ballroom.

Longtime Austin Peay head men’s basketball coach Dave Loos will receive an Outstanding Service award, while former golfer John Swigart and former football player Trent Caffee will receive Outstanding Young Alumni honors. Another former golfer, Steve Harmon, will receive one of two Outstanding Alumni awards.

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Senior quarterback Jake Ryan, of the Austin Peay State University football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Ryan took OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his Senior Day performance against Tennessee Tech. He was 27-for-38 for 310 yards and four touchdowns in the Govs 38-31 victory over the Golden Eagles in Ryan’s Austin Peay swan song.

Austin Peay Football’s Jake Ryan named OVC Co-Offensive Player of the Week

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – Senior quarterback Jake Ryan, who threw four touchdown passes in Austin Peay’s Senior Day win against Tennessee Tech, Saturday, has been named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Ryan capped his Austin Peay career by completing 27-of-38 passes for 310 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in the Governors 38-31 victory over Tennessee Tech. Three of his four touchdown passes went to senior Devin Stark, including a 23-yard strike in the third quarter that extended the Govs lead to 38-7 (after the team had led 31-0 at halftime).

149 Austin Peay Student-Athletes named to Spring Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University student-athletes posted a 2.862 grade-point average during the recently completed Spring 2011 semester, the department announced Thursday.

The department saw 147 student-athletes named to the Spring 2011 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing 49 percent of the department’s 300 student-athletes. Included in that tally are 16 student-athletes who were named to the President’s List – recording a perfect 4.0 GPA – and 70 student-athletes who were named to APSU’s Dean’s List, earning a 3.5 or better GPA.

Football Governors fill needs with 16 signees

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Filling areas of need, Austin Peay State University football team announced the signing of 16 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, Wednesday, to attend the University next fall.

Wednesday was the first day that potential recruits could sign national letters of intent.

“We recruited needs as we always do,” APSU coach Rick Christophel said. “We pinpointed some areas, in particular, and we felt like we did well recruiting those areas. We still would like to find a linebacker and another offensive lineman—we signed one (Julian Virgo, of Pope John Paul II in Hendersonville), but we really feel good about this recruiting class so far.

Governors offense comes up short at Eastern Kentucky

Austin Peay State University GovernorsRichmond, KY – Jeremy Caldwell returned a third-quarter punt 69 yards to break a tie and lifted Eastern Kentucky to a 17-3 Ohio Valley Conference decision against Austin Peay State University, Saturday, at Roy Kidd Stadium in the season finale for both clubs.

The loss was the Govs’ eighth straight, ending the APSU season at 2-9, 1-7 in the OVC. The eight straight losses are the most by a Governors team since 2004.
