Clarksville’s Bashaara Graves and Tennessee Lady Vols begin “Grind For 9”

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – After getting preseason preparations under way with a short workout early Monday, the Lady Vols came back on Tuesday with their first full-scale practice of the 2013-14 campaign.

Head Coach Holly Warlick is intent on her team members playing fast and giving their all on both ends of the floor. Many drills in practice are focused on just those ideas, preparing the newest Tennessee squad to meet the pace expected of the Big Orange’s second-year head coach.

Clarksville’s Bashaara Graves among a pair of Lady Vols playing for USA Basketball

 

University of Tennessee - UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN — Excited about the opportunities before them, a pair of Lady Vols are preparing to begin stints of play abroad with USA Basketball this summer.

Rising University of Tennessee junior Ariel Massengale earned a spot on the USA World University Games Team, which will play July 8th through 15th in Kazan, Russia. Rising sophomore Bashaara Graves, meanwhile, heads to Panev?žys, Lithuania, for the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women on July 18th through 28th.

University of Tennessee Basketball’s Jarnell Stokes makes USA Team Roster

 

Tennessee VolsColorado Springs, CO — Following six highly-competitive training camp workouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO., USA Basketball announced its final 12-man roster on June 18th for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic. Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes made the final cut and will represent the United States in international play for the second consecutive summer.

Tennessee is one of only two Southeastern Conference programs represented on the U.S. team.

Clarksville’s Bashaara Graves invited to USA Basketball U19 Trials

 

USA BasketballClarksville, TN – University of Tennessee rising sophomore Bashaara Graves and incoming freshman Jordan Reynolds are among 34 of the nation’s top athletes age 19 or younger who have accepted invitations to participate in the 2013 USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team trials, USA Basketball announced Tuesday.

Trials to select the 12-member USA squad will be held May 16th-19th at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, CO. The unit will represent the U.S. in the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship, hosted by Lithuania from July 18th-28th in Klaipeda and Panev?žys.

University of Tennessee to retire Candace Parker’s jersey

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary women’s basketball player Candace Parker by retiring her jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee Athletics Department announced Thursday.

Parker, a two-time All-American, will become the sixth Lady Vol player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. Her No. 3 banner will join those for Holly Warlick (No. 22), Chamique Holdsclaw (No. 23), Tamika Catchings (No. 24), Bridgette Gordon (No. 30) and Daedra Charles (No. 32). Lady Vol Head Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt also had a banner raised in her honor this season on January 28th prior to the game with Notre Dame. «Read the rest of this article»
