Spc. Mitchell Bombeck: A family legacy of teamwork and service

U.S. Army Warrior Care and TransitionChicago, IL – Those who know Spc. Mitchell Bombeck say, at a young age, he chose to serve our country, but in reality, service chose him.

His mother, Janelle Bombeck, a 33-year Air Force veteran, says most of their family members had the same calling – including her grandfather, father and all of her siblings.

“It’s what we do. We serve our country,” she said.

Warrior Games regional trials for Soldiers and veterans at Fort Campbell April 14th-17th

Blanchfield Army Hospital - BACH - Fort Campbell KYFort Campbell, KY – The Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion is hosting regional Warrior Games trials April 14th to 17th at Fort Campbell, KY.

These preliminary trials will select active duty and veteran athletes to compete for a spot on the 40-person Army team in the 2014 Warrior Games at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs this October.

Fort Campbell’s Major General James C. McConville recognizes Wounded Warriors selected to Warrior Games

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell Maj. Gen. James C. McConville tells Sgt. 1st Class Landon Ranker and Spc. Jasmine Perry how proud he is that they will be representing the Army in the Warrior Games.

The Warrior Games is an Olympic-style competition for wounded, ill, and injured service members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces. Ranker and Perry will compete in a variety of track and field, swimming, running and cycling events from  April 30th to May 5th in Colorado Springs, CO.

Army Announces 2011 Army Warrior Games Team

Warrior GamesColorado Springs, CO – The U.S. Army’s Warrior Transition Command (WTC) announced the selection of wounded warrior athletes that will represent the Army at the 2011 Warrior Games.  The Army team consists of active and reserve component Soldiers stationed in commands around the world as well as Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2) Soldiers and Veterans.

The competition, which is a joint effort between the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and the Department of Defense, will take place May 16th-21st, 2011, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The second annual Warrior Games will feature 200 wounded, ill, and injured servicemembers from all branches of the U.S. armed forces. Competitors will compete in several sports including shooting, swimming, archery, track and field, cycling, sitting volleyball, and wheelchair basketball. «Read the rest of this article»
