Clarksville Fire Rescue raises $8,000 for YMCA’s After Breast Cancer Program

 

Clarksville Fire RescueClarksville, TN – Clarksville Fire Rescue firefighters and staff members concluded a drive to sell hundreds of black-and-pink T-shirts that allowed them to donate $8,000 to the YMCA’s After Breast Cancer (ABC) Program.

Clarksville Fire Chief Freddie Montgomery and CFR staff members Susan Harris and Angela Moody presented the check to the Clarksville Area YMCA Thursday during the annual Tickle Me Pink event, which is a fundraiser for the ABC Program.

Chief Montgomery and a large group of firefighters were on hand to distribute roses to cancer survivors and women affected by cancer who were recognized during the event. Clarksville First Lady Cynthia Pitts offered the invocation to start the day.

Austin Peay State University’s Foy Fitness and Recreation Center hosting 8th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5K

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Foy Fitness and Recreation Center will host the 8th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5K at 9:00am on October 20th, 2018.

The race, which will take place on the Austin Peay campus, allows participants to either run or walk at their own pace.

“Cancer Queens” Teach Prevention Through Song and Dance

Clarksville's YMCAClarksville, TN – If statistics, charts and graphs make your eyes glaze over – but you still want to learn ways to improve your health and reduce your risk of getting various types of cancer – plan to be entertained as well as educated by the Cancer Queens.

Even though they are all professional health educators, the Cancer Queens emphasize they are not professional actresses or dancers. They do, however, excel at “edutainment” – a phrase coined to describe education via an entertainment venue. They have been recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and have brought laughter and health messages to audiences all across the state of Tennessee.

Miller-Motte Technical College Rolls out the Pink Carpet for Breast Cancer Survivors at second annual Survivor Spa Day

 

Miller-Motte Technical CollegeClarksville, TN – Miller-Motte Technical College Cosmetology and Esthetics program in partnership with the YMCA of Middle Tennessee’s After Breast Cancer (ABC) Outreach Program held a Survivor’s Spa Day as part of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; while National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is in October. The Second Annual Survivor Spa Day at Miller-Motte is held in November to extend breast cancer awareness.

Twenty breast cancer survivors gathered at Miller-Motte’s Cosmetology and Esthetics Center to enjoy an evening of pampering. Attendees were offered a selection of beauty tips and services including  make-up application, mini manicures, mini facials, hand treatments, brow shaping, and scalp treatments by Miller-Motte Technical College Students enrolled in their Cosmetology and Esthetics program.

Austin Peay State University’s Lady Govs Soccer host their final two home games this weekend

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team will host its final two home games this weekend, beginning with a 7:00pm, Friday match against SIU Edwardsville, followed by a 2:00pm, Sunday match against Eastern Illinois.

The Lady Govs are teaming up with the Clarksville YMCA’s After Breast Cancer (ABC) program to present “Let’s Go Peay-nk!” Night, Friday, against SIU Edwardsville. Fans will be able to purchase official Peaynk shirts with proceeds benefitting the YMCA’s ABC Outreach program. As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Austin Peay soccer will don pink warm-up shirts for pregame.
