Muncie, IN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament by heading north to play in the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, at Delaware Country Club.
The 54-hole tournament will begin Saturday with a 9:00am shotgun start and the teams will play 36 holes. The final 18 holes are scheduled for a 9:00am shotgun start Sunday. The Delaware Country Club will play to a par 70 and 6,438 yards. The tourney also features a unique format as each team plays six players, with the top five scores counting. Most other tourneys feature the play-five count-four format. Along with host Ball State, the tournament field includes Bowling Green, Marshall, Northern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Ohio, Dayton, Evansville, SIU Edwardsville Cleveland State, Butler, Wright State and Valparaiso.
“I’m looking forward to a great event,” head coach Kirk Kayden said. “We have a new lineup this week and they hit it really well in the practice round. I think this course sets up well for this group.”
Kayden has elected to go with an extremely young lineup this weekend, featuring four freshmen (Marco Iten, Anthony Bradley, Trey Tarpley and Alasdair MacLennan), one sophomore (Dustin Korte) and one junior (Drew Miller).
Korte is coming off a two-under 70, Tuesday, in the final round of ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate at Arkansas State. Iten shot a one-under 70 while Bradley finished at even par 72 during the final round.
This is only the season’s second respective tournaments for MacLennan and Miller as Kayden continues to search for his No. 4 and No. 5 golfers for the OVC tourney, April 25th-27th, at GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson.
Joining Austin Peay in the 15-team field is fellow OVC foe Eastern Kentucky and future league member SIU Edwardsville. Ball State is the host and will play two teams. In addition, the tourney also will include Bowling Green, Butler, Cleveland State, Dayton, Evansville, Marshall, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Valparaiso and Wright State.
