There’s still time to Sign Up for Riverfest’s 5th Annual Regatta

Clarksville, TN – The Riverfest Regatta, sponsored by U.S. Bank, is not your typical boat race. The boats racing down the Cumberland River Saturday morning, September 10th, will be made of cardboard and a few other approved materials. Not only will teams be racing for bragging rights, but trophies will also be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams in each division.

Competition will be in five divisions: Adult Open, Business and Industry, Church/Civic, City Department and Military. Stephen Kemmer, U.S. Bank Community President and District Manager, and his team plan to race their boat in the Business and Industry division.

“It is a lot of fun – not only the race itself, but seeing the creativity of the designs – this is a must see for Clarksville, and a great event in which to participate,” said Kemmer, who participated in last year’s event, not only by sponsoring a school to help with boat construction, but also racing it along the race course, approximately 100 yards, with his team.

Prior to the race, boats will also be judged for the following awards:

• Titanic Award – best sinking of a boat.
• Ship Shape Award – best boat design.
• Cardboard Queen Award – prettiest boat.
• Team Attire Award – most creative costumes.
• Team Unity Award – most spirited and organized team.
      

If you think you have what it takes, pick up an application form today at any of the US Bank Clarksville locations, the Parks & Recreation office, or visit www.clarksvilleriverfest.com to print out one. Forms must be returned to the Parks and Recreation office no later than September 7th.
 
Don’t miss the spectacle! Everyone is invited to watch as groups attempt to paddle their cardboard boats to the finish line on the Cumberland River at 10:00am Saturday, September 10th, at McGregor Park’s courtesy boat dock.
