Explosive Blast kills Fort Campbell Soldier

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A Fort Campbell Soldier died August 27th, after being struck by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device blast, while conducting operations in Kandahar city, Afghanistan.

Specialist Michael Christopher Roberts, 23, of Watauga, Texas, was a Military Policeman, assigned to 561st Military Police Company, 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, Fort Campbell, KY. He joined the Army in November 2007 and arrived at Fort Campbell in February 2011.

His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Roberts is survived by his parents, David and Kathy Roberts of Watauga, Texas. 

Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor its fallen.
