Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University shortstop Reed Harper and pitcher Casey Delgado were named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.
Harper, of Clarksville, also was the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after leading the Govs with seven RBI during the week. He had a two-run single in the Govs contest at nationally-ranked Mississippi State, Tuesday.
Harper led the Govs to their first sweep at Murray State since the 1992 season. He hit a three-run home run to provide the game-winning runs in the Govs’ Game 2 victory. Harper followed that by reaching base in all five plate appearances in Game 3, finishing the day 3-for-3 with a walk, was hit by a pitch and had a two-run single.
Delgado, of Miami, FL, posted a career high in strike outs for the second consecutive week, with 10 strikeouts in his Game 2 start against Murray State, Friday. He allowed one earned run in seven innings en route to his season’s fifth victory. Delgado also appeared in the Govs contest at Mississippi State, striking out two in one inning of relief work.
Harper is the third Governors player to earn TSWA weekly honors, joining second baseman Jordan Hankins (February 26th) and Cody Hudson (March 12th). Delgado is the first APSU pitcher to earn the association’s weekly pitching award.
Austin Peay returns to action with a 6:00pm, Tuesday home contest against Lipscomb.
