APSU Athlete of the Week Brianne Alexander

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Freshman center Brianne Alexander, of the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Alexander averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds last week, helping Austin Peay earn a split on its road trip to Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech. Her first career double-double – a 13-point, 10-rebound affair against the Gamecocks – paced the Lady Govs to a 57-54 win at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Since rejoining the squad at the beginning of the New Year, the Smyrna, TN, native is averaging 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds on 51.7 percent (15-for-29) shooting. Her performance, which has helped Austin Peay get out to a 2-1 start in conference play, also has earned her a spot in the starting five on three occasions.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Junior guard Tiasha Gray, of the women’s basketball team, averaged 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, including an 18-point, 11-board outing against Jacksonville State. She also scored a game-high 24 points at Tennessee Tech.
  • Freshman guard Josh Robinson, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 11.0 points in 15.0 minutes in two games last week. The sharpshooter from St. Louis hit 58.3 percent (7-for-12) of his shots from the floor, including 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from beyond the arc.
