BACH continues to Reschedule Canceled Appointments

Blanchfield Army Hospital - BACH - Fort Campbell KYFort Campbell, KY – Blanchfield Army Community Hospital leadership created a Saturday make-up appointment opportunity, seeing nearly 300 patients after the winter storm in January.

BACH personnel continue to reschedule appointments for beneficiaries, whose outpatient appointments were canceled after road conditions limited activity on Fort Campbell to essential personnel only, January 12th and 16th.

“We never want to inconvenience our patients by canceling our outpatient appointments, but we have to consider the safety of everyone involved when we experience weather-related conditions like we experienced over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend and early into the week,” said Col. Anthony McQueen, hospital commander. “Safety is always our number one priority for our patients and staff. When

Fort Campbell is open to mission essential personnel only, we have to weigh the risk of opening our services and determine if it is safe and how it might impact the remainder of the community, as they are busy attempting to make the roads safe for all to travel.”

Once garrison officials determined it was safe to resume normal operations on post Wednesday, January 17th, scheduling officials from the hospital began contacting beneficiaries to get their primary and specialty care appointments rescheduled. The first appointments were rescheduled the following Saturday for beneficiaries after the hospital received permission to open outpatient services outside of normal operating hours.

“We all were affected in some way by the latest winter storm,” said Col. Troy Prairie, chief of BACH’s Primary Care Services. “Team members from each of our patient-centered medical homes in Air Assault Medical Home, Byrd Family Medical Home, Gold Medical Home, Screaming Eagle Medical Home and Young Eagle Medical Home volunteered to return to work Saturday to support individuals whose appointments were impacted by the weather-related closure.”

Primary care and some specialty care services, like Women’s Health and surgical services, recaptured nearly 300 appointments that Saturday.

According to Capt. Tyler Garrett, a BACH primary care administrator, 85 percent of the scheduled appointments missed were recouped and patients were grateful to receive a call to learn about the opportunity to reschedule their appointment so quickly. The remaining primary care appointments will be fit into the hospital’s existing scheduling system.

“Our medical team is truly comprised of professional and compassionate personnel. Patients must know they are valued and appreciated when they see providers and support personnel giving up their weekend to return to work for the sake of medically caring for our patient population,” McQueen said.

Individuals can call the hospital’s appointment line at 270.798.4677 or 931.431.4677 to reschedule their primary care appointment if they missed the call to reschedule their appointment. Patients who missed a specialty care appointment, like Women’s Health, Optometry, or Physical Therapy, should contact their specialty care clinic to reschedule if they have not yet been contacted.
