The cover feature, “Santa's Work Is Never Done,” brought holiday cheer with a playful look at the season's hardest-working figure, setting a festive tone for the year's final issue.
“The Food Initiative” spotlighted the Sango-area nonprofit growing healthy food and empowering young people through a working farm — a mission the magazine would return to over the years, here captured in its early days and a fitting subject for the season of giving. “A Memorable Christmas” shared a heartwarming holiday story, the health pages offered flu-prevention guidance and marked World Diabetes Day, and a meringue-cookies recipe added holiday sweetness.
The recurring departments round out a December number that balances festive fun, charitable purpose and practical health — a fittingly warm close to the year that celebrates the joy of the season while spotlighting the local efforts that feed and empower the community.
The “Santa's Work Is Never Done” cover belonged to Clarksville's own Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Gary and Marie Caudell, who spend the year preparing to make Christmas special for countless local children. Most of the kids simply call Gary “Santa,” a name earned by his trademark authentic beard and a heart for giving his time freely. For more than a decade the Caudells have donned their festive best to greet children at the Riverwalk's Christmas on the Cumberland and the downtown Christmas parade — and when summer's heat set in, Santa was already back at the year-round work behind it all.
