“Waterfall Roadtrip!” was built for the warming weather, gathering the nearby cascades worth a spring drive as readers looked for ways to get outside again — a practical guide to the natural beauty within easy reach of Clarksville.
“Tall Tales” came from Matt Schorr, known to many readers for his weekly parenting column in The Leaf-Chronicle, giving his familiar wit more room than a newspaper column allows. “Day of Play,” by Ashmin Small, MS, opened on a resonant idea — that the wider the range of possibilities offered to children, the more intense their engagement becomes — and built a thoughtful case for the developmental importance of unstructured play.
Arriving on the cusp of a spring that would upend everything, the issue reads now as a last, unhurried look at ordinary life — a road trip planned, a column enjoyed, a child at play. The recurring recipes, Pet Corner and photo pages round it out, capturing the small pleasures of a Clarksville March that the coming months would soon make precious.
“Waterfall Roadtrip!” set an appealing problem for a warming spring: Tennessee has more than 325 waterfalls, which made narrowing the list to fifteen genuinely hard. The magazine leaned toward the most magnificent — especially the falls that drop over 200 feet into a pool below, which grow more amazing the closer you get — and noted that many sit near Nashville or within a few hours' drive, with routes short enough for a casual outing or arduous enough for a serious hiker, depending on the day.
