The cover feature, “Photographic Reflections from David Barbee,” spotlighted a local photographer whose work has captured Clarksville life — the same David Barbee whose cover portraits the magazine had featured — in an appreciation of an artist behind the lens.
With the school year approaching, “Steps for a Smart Start” helped families prepare for the transition back to the classroom. The health pages made a memorable case for posture with “7 Reasons to Stand Up Straight,” and a Q&A on medication safety in children delivered practical, potentially life-saving information. The issue also included cosmetic-care coverage, from breast reduction for both men and women to a feature billed as “an uplift, not a facelift.”
The recurring departments round out an August number that celebrates a local artist while helping families turn toward the school year — pairing a celebration of the eye behind so many local images with the down-to-earth guidance a household needs as summer ends.
The David Barbee profile caught him where he was least comfortable — in front of the lens rather than behind it. For three decades he had commemorated other people's milestones, from weddings to a baby's first year to graduations, his patience and eye for detail making everyone else look their best. Then, three years earlier, a cancer diagnosis shifted his focus from other people's moments to his own health, the turn that gave the reflective feature its depth.
