The cover feature, “Illuminating a Holiday,” by Pamela Roddy Magrans, took up the why and when of celebrating Independence Day — the commemoration, the debate over what it means, and the significance it carries in a community shaped by Fort Campbell and the sacrifices of its soldiers and their families.
“Behind the Scenes at Manna Café” was narrated by founder and director Kenny York from the job trailer that serves as his office, about a hundred feet from the warehouse, with a unique view over the campus and the hunger-relief work happening across it. A companion feature, “Growing a Community,” profiled a Clarksville mother named Terrie who persevered toward the career she loves. The health pages met the season with a “Summer Heat Survival Guide” and “6 Steps to Summer Safety,” plus a look at faster tattoo removal.
The recurring departments round out a July number that pairs patriotic reflection with the everyday realities of a Clarksville summer — honoring the community's military heart while spotlighting the neighbors quietly serving one another, as thoughtful as it is seasonal.
The cover feature, “Illuminating a Holiday,” dug into the why and when of Independence Day itself — the commemoration, the debates over its meaning, and the particular weight it carries in a town shaped by Fort Campbell and the sacrifices of its soldiers. The rural-retreat feature, by contrast, found its warmth in small touches, right down to the custom candles a host made in each guest's honor — the two features together giving July both a patriotic and a restorative heart.
