Maya is not only the first baby of the new year, but also the first child of Leticia Vasquez and her husband Louis.

Restored historic OH-23 Raven helicopter dedicated to Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion is now the proud home of a Korean War era OH-23 Raven medical evacuation helicopter. WTB leadership, along with the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital commander and 101st Airborne Division leaders, dedicated the aircraft display at a ceremony in its new home at the WTB Complex today.

During the ceremony, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell Senior Mission Commander Brig. Gen. Mark R. Stammer recognized all of the men and women within the WTB, honoring them for their dedication to healing, overcoming personal obstacles and transitioning either back to their units or into the civilian world as honored veterans.

Fort Campbell, 101st Airborne Division Names Non-Commissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Leaders of Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) gathered to recognize two Soldiers as winners of the 2013 Non-Commissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year competition, Monday, June 3rd, at McAuliffe Hall.

Sgt. Jose L. Orozco and Spc. Jonathan D. Gragert appeared calm and collected as they stood at attention; representing both the 101st Airborne Division, and “the future of the U.S. Army,” according to Command Sgt. Major Mark F. Herndon, rear detachment command sergeant major.

Fort Campbell, KY – “A Thunder Warrior is highly trained, disciplined and fit — a member of a team built on trust and respect, devoted to the mission, soldiers and families,” is the creed for the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Command Sgt. Maj. Ron Dvorsky, the 159th CAB’s command sergeant major, said the brigade’s soldiers continue to exemplify this creed by repeatedly showing exemplary performance during the Warrior Leader Course at Fort Campbell, KY.

Fort Campbell Soldiers attend Stigma Reduction Communications Campaign workshop

159th Combat Aviation BrigadeFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Soldiers of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade and other 101st Airborne Division soldiers participated in a Stigma Reduction Communications Campaign workshop September 18th at Fort Campbell, KY.

The objective of the workshop was to reduce the stigmas associated with seeking help for personal issues. Emotional problems, substance abuse, domestic violence, discrimination and sexual assault and harassment are surrounded by negative perceptions, which might prevent someone from seeking professional help.

The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade uncased their colors in a ceremony at Fort Campbell yesterday

 

159th Combat Aviation BrigadeFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade part of the 101st Airborne Division held a ceremony uncasing their unit colors at the Fort Campbell Army Airfield’s Passenger Processing Center on March 22nd.

The colors uncasing ceremony is a time-honored tradition that marks the final step of redeployment for the brigade from its yearlong mission providing rotary-wing aviation support throughout southern Afghanistan.

Fort Campbell Welcomes Home 281 Soldiers from the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Yesterday Fort Campbell welcomed 281 soldiers from the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade home from a year long deployment to Southern Afghanistan. The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade is one of the last major elements of the 101st Airborne Division still deployed in Afghanistan. The returning soldiers were from the 563rd Aviation Support Battalion “Fighting”; 7th Squadron, 17 Cavalry Regiment   “Pale Horse”; 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment “Eagle Wings”; and 7th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment “Eagle Lift”.

Family and friends of the returning soldiers had gathered together to give their loved ones a proper welcome home.

563rd Aviation Support Battalion soldier awarded Air Medal and Purple Heart

 

Task Force ThunderFort Campbell, KY – The 563rd Aviation Support Battalion. 159th Combat Aviation Brigade of the 101st Airborne division gathered together on Fort Campbell yesterday to recognize one of their own.

Specialist Leandro Garcia was presented with an Air Medal for Exceptionally Meritorious Service in Aerial Flight in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 9-11, as well as a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained when his helicopter was shot down while flying a mission in support of Observation Post (OP) Restrepo in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan.

The awards were presented to Specialist Garcia by  Major General Francis “Frank” Wiercinski the Senior Commander for Fort Campbell, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade Commander Colonel Kenneth T. Royar,  and 563rd Aviation Support Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel John L. Smith.

159 CAB Soldier to receive Air Medal and Purple Heart for actions in Afghanistan

Task Force ThunderFort Campbell, KY – A Soldier with the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, is scheduled to receive the Air Medal for Service and the Purple Heart during a January 4th ceremony at Fort Campbell.

Spc. Leandro Garcia of the 563rd Aviation Support Battalion, 159th CAB, will be awarded the Air Medal for exceptional meritorious service in aerial flight in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 09-11 from December 15th to June 14th 2009 and the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat in support of OEF 09-11 during a mission to Outpost Restrepo in the Korengal Valley.
