Austin Peay State University Eriksson College of Education welcomes delegation of Chinese teachers

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – For nearly 90 years, Austin Peay State University (APSU) has provided professional development training for local teachers, but in late February, the Eriksson College of Education expanded its services well beyond the Middle Tennessee region.

On Wednesday, February 20th, 2019 a delegation of 15 preschool and kindergarten teachers and administrators from Beijing, China, arrived on campus for a special, week-long training symposium.

She’d heard about the new Full Spectrum Learning (FSL) pilot program at Austin Peay State University (APSU), which assisted students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, but she hesitated filling out the program’s application.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Hanan Alghamdi’s face brightened with a smile when she learned she was Austin Peay State University’s first-ever master’s degree recipient from Saudi Arabia.

“I feel proud of what I am,” said the Master of Arts in Teaching recipient.

“I started from zero and now I see myself as …” she said before breaking off, adding later as her smile returned, “I did it. I did it.”

Austin Peay State University now offering Doctoral Degree with new Ed.D.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University took a major step forward today with the announcement of the first doctoral degree in the institution’s history. Beginning this fall, the APSU Eriksson College of Education will offer a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Educational Leadership for K-12 professionals looking to advance their careers.

Earlier this month, the program received its final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) —the region’s higher education accrediting body.
