Clarksville, TN – Peyton Williams led wire-to-wire to win the 35th Annual Mayor’s Golf Tournament, Sept. 14th at Swan Lake Golf Course, while Brad Van Kirk completed the Clarksville area Senor Grand Slam by taking the Senior Division title.
For Williams, a freshman on the Trevecca Nazarene University golf team, it’s his first area major title – as he finished with a two-day total of even-par 142 (68-74) to finish two shots ahead of Steven Reigle (73-71=144), while also earning a spot in the Tournament of Champions.
Clarksville, TN – Over 80 golfers teed off in unseasonably cool weather Saturday morning at Swan Lake Golf Course to compete in the 2014 Mayor’s Golf Classic. The two day event features both young and older golfers vying for the top spot in two divisions, open and senior.
At the end of day 1 several seniors earned bragging rights with the top scores. Brad Van Kirk led all seniors and 99 percent of the field with a three under 68.
Van Kirk was last year’s Senior Tournament of Champions winner and has been red hot this summer winning three events including his first non-senior division tournament title, the Clarksville City Amateur Golf Tournament.

Clarksville, TN – More than 280 golfers participated in the 27th Annual Governors Golf Classic, held Friday, at Swan Lake Golf Course and the Clarksville Country Club.
It was the largest Govs Classic since it was initiated in 1987 and believed to be the largest tournament of its kind as far as participants in Clarksville history as 34 teams played at Swan Lake and the 36 at the Country Club.
Clarksville, TN – Tyler Guy and Hunter Richardson will be applying their golf skills with the University of Tennessee at Martin this coming fall, but showed a little early teamwork June 21st at Swan Lake Gold Course, as the pair combined to shot an opening-round 57 (14 under) to lead the Bud Light Two-Man Scramble by three shots.
Guy — who will be a junior — and Richardson, an incoming freshman for the Skyhawks this fall, were the only team to post a round in the 50’s, with the teams of Brian Balthrop and Josh Black, Johnathan Sewell and Sam Gentry, Greg Guinn and Todd Greene, and Rob Clouser and Steven Huff all coming in with opening rounds of 60.
Brian Balthrop wins second Commanding General’s title; Brad Van Kirk three-peats in Senior’s Division
Clarksville, TN – Being the only player to post two under-par rounds, June 14th and 15th at Cole Park Golf Course, Brian Balthrop recorded his second Commanding General’s Golf Tournament win in the past three years with a one-shot victory.
Balthrop finished with a two-round total of 139 (71-68), edging Wendy’s Invitational champion Tyler Phillips (72-68—140) by a shot, while first round leader Josh Black took third place (68-74—142), three shots back.
“I just tried to go bogey free,” Balthrop said. “Bogies early in the second round really hamper the momentum you have going in.
Clarksville, TN – Josh Black shot an opening round of four-under 68, June 14th at Cole Park Golf Course, to lead the Champion Flight of the Open Division at the Commanding General’s Golf Tournament by two shots.
Black was one of four golfers to break par in the Open Division, which includes Jim Mashburn at 2-under 70 and defending champion Jeff Chandler at 1-under 71 – matched by Brian Balthrop.
Wendy’s champion Tyler Phillips is four shots back after an even-par round of 72, with Colin Welker, Drew Miller, Jonathan Shuskey at coming at a 1-over 73 – with five other golfers at 2-over 74.
In the Open Division First Flight, there is a logjam at the top with David Sheron Sr., Lafran Marks, Todd Dalton, Todd Morris and Weston Sartain at tied after 18 holes of play with rounds of 6-over 78. «Read the rest of this article»
Clarksville, TN – It took a playoff for a winner to emerge from the eight elite golfers Sunday afternoon in the final round of the Mann, Smith & Cummings Tournament of Champions at Swan Lake Golf Course.
The leaders from the 1st round, two-time former champion Brian Balthrop and UT-Martin standout Tyler Guy, went to extra holes after finishing the two regulation rounds tied at 136. Both hit solid approach shots on the second playoff hole that set up short putts for birdies. However, Balthrop’s putt lipped out and he had to settle for par. Tyler Guy lined seized his opportunity, and after making his birdie putt, the Tournament Championship was his.

Clarksville, TN – Tyler Guy leads an elite field of 8 Clarksville area golfers, after the first round of the Mann Smith & Cummings Tournament of Champions, played at Swan Lake Golf Course, firing a solid 3 under par round of 68.
Guy commented that he was confident off the tee box, and knew his shots would pretty much settle where they landed. The former Rossview High School star and current UT Martin stand-out played with confidence,on a wet and soggy golf course.
Clarksville, TN – Shooting a final-round three-under 68, Brian Balthrop broke a three-way tie heading into the round September 15th to run away and take the 34th Mayor’s Golf Classic by a six shot margin.
The victory was the second of the season for Balthrop (71-68—139), who also won the Clarksville City Amateur back in August.
Clarksville Mayor’s Golf Classic has Three Tied for the Lead, Dick Blackston shoots 67 out of Senior Division
Clarksville, TN – Shooting just one stroke over his age, Dick Blackston recorded a round of four-under 67, Saturday, September 14th at Swan Lake Golf Course, to lead the Senior Division of the Mayor’s Golf Classic by three strokes.
Blackston carded six birdies, including four on the back nine, to go with two bogies in his round – which is his best round ever at Sawn Lake, besting a round of 69 that occurred about 15 years ago.
