Mayor vs. General Third Annual Broomball Game at Downtown Commons Ice Rink set for January 15th

 

Downtown Commons Ice RinkMontgomery County, TN – Broomball is sweeping through Clarksville! Come out to the Downtown Commons Winter Ice Rink and see Clarksville’s most entertaining sport. Fort Campbell’s Major General Brain Winski will challenge the reigning champions, Montgomery County and Mayor Jim Durrett, for the third annual showdown on ice, January 15th, 2020 at 6:00pm.

Joining us this season is Clarksville Police Department and Clarksville Fire Rescue for a friendly competition of Guns vs. Hoses starting at 5:00pm. The 911 Dispatchers will try their hand in a short match between the two featured games.

Downtown Commons Ice RinkMontgomery County, TN – On January 15th, 2020, the public is invited to attend the second annual Broomball match between Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett and U.S. Army Fort Campbell to a backyard broomball game at 6:00pm-7:00pm at the Downtown Commons Winter Ice Rink.

Broomball is a variation of ice hockey played on ice without skates and with brooms and a ball instead of sticks and a puck. Running around in shoes on ice while trying to “sweep” a ball into a goal presents a unique challenge that includes a lot of slipping, sliding and falling.

City of Clarksville, Montgomery County took on Fort Campbell in Annual Tobacco Stick Softball Game

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts recently joined forces with Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett in an effort to put together a softball team made up of city and county employees who could compete with the always hard-to-beat Fort Campbell team.

The occasion was the 10th Annual Tobacco Stick Softball Game, a friendly afternoon of softball at Heritage Park that promotes more camaraderie than competition among our local government employees, and the Soldiers that serve our nation.

The best of Clarksville-Montgomery County and Fort Campbell came out to compete in the 10th Annual Tobacco Stick Softball Game.

Downtown Commons Winter Ice Rink

Downtown Commons Ice RinkMontgomery County, TN – Soon the green space at Downtown Commons will be open again as we bid farewell to the outdoor ice rink for the 2018-2019 season. The second year of skating at the Downtown Commons Winter Ice Rink ended this week. It was another successful season with thousands of skaters who were able to take advantage of an uncommon outdoor activity for our community. The tear down process will begin by the end of this week.

After looking at trends from the 2017-2018 ice skating season, changes were made in 2018-2019 that included fewer days and hours for optimum use.

Fort Campbell wins Broomball Challenge at Downtown Commons Ice Rink

 

Downtown CommonsMontgomery County, TN – Major General Andrew Poppas and his 101st Airborne Division team won the inaugural Mayor vs Major Broomball game at the Downtown Commons ice rink Wednesday night, January 10th, 2 to 1 in overtime.

TRC Executive Director Norman Quirion commented after the game, “What an event. I’m going to say there were at least 300 people out here, and the condition of the ice made tonight’s game more competitive than expected. It wasn’t a high-scoring game, but the competition was real.”

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett Challenges Fort Campbell’s Major General Andrew Poppas to Broomball

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – The public is invited to attend what is thought to be Clarksville’s first ever broomball match as Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett challenges Fort Campbell’s Major General Andrew Poppas to a backyard broomball game on January 10th, 2018 at 6:30pm at the Downtown Commons outdoor ice skating rink.

Gnash, the Nashville Predator’s Mascot, members from the Predators Energy Team and Predators alumni will be on site greeting fans and cheering on Mayor Durrett and Major General Poppas as they try to outscore each other on the ice.
