APSU Men's BasketballSt. Petersburg, FL – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball team threw a scare into one of four unbeaten teams left in Division I, pushing Duquesne to the brink in an 86-77 contest to open the St. Pete Shootout, Saturday.

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – For the second year in a row, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) basketball team will end the pre-Christmas slate in Florida, taking on Duquesne and Alabama State in the 2019 St. Pete Shootout, hosted by Eckerd College.

Tennessee Lady Vols get 89-60 win over James Madison

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 13/18-ranked Tennessee rolled to an 89-60 victory over James Madison at Thompson-Boling Wednesday night, with senior forward Jaime Nared posting 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists to lead the way for the Lady Vols.
 
UT shot 55 percent from the field, 53.3 percent from behind the arc and had four players in double figures. Freshman forward Rennia Davis followed Nared as UT’s second-leading scorer with 17 points, while center Mercedes Russell and forward Cheridene Green tallied 14 and 10 , respectively.

Lady Govs ready for final non-conference tilt at UAB, Sunday

 

APSU Women’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule when it meets UAB in a 2:00pm, Sunday contest at Bartow Arena.

The Lady Govs will be less than 48 hours removed from a four-day stay in Pittsburgh, PA where they dropped contests to Pittsburgh, Tuesday, and Duquesne, Thursday. In its 62-50 loss at Duquesne, Austin Peay had a first half to forget and a second half they would like to repeat as the season progresses.

The Lady Govs allowed Duquesne to score 41 points in the first half while its own offense struggled, making just eight field goals. However, the second half saw APSU produce an impressive defensive effort, holding the Dukes to 19 field goal attempts (eight made) and grabbing a 24-13 rebounding edge.

Lady Govs second-half effort falls short in loss at Duquesne

 

APSU Women’s Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsPittsburgh, PA – For 20 minutes, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team made a defensive stand, but it was 20 minutes too late as it lost 62-50 to Duquesne in non-conference action, Thursday night, at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

Austin Peay (4-11) again fell into a huge hole in the first half as Duquesne (11-2) used a 14-6 run to jump out to a 20-10 lead less than nine minutes into the contest. The Dukes slowly expanded their lead to 17 points, 29-12, over the next seven minutes.

Lady Govs wrap up Pittsburgh stay with battle at Duquesne

Austin Peay State University GovernorsPittsburgh, PA – Austin Peay wraps up its two-game, four-day visit to The Steel City with a 6:00pm (CT), Thursday contest against Duquesne at the Palumbo Center.

The Lady Govs returned from their Christmas Break still showing signs of the time off in a 75-53 loss at Pittsburgh, Tuesday. Austin Peay’s defense allowed Pittsburgh to shoot nearly 51 percent from the field, including nearly 59 percent in the first half. The Panthers jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead which Austin Peay could not reduce in the second half. Austin Peay saw its six-game streak of winning the rebounding battle end as Pitt posted a 46-37 advantage on the boards.
