Montgomery County Highway Department reports Roads Closed Due to High Waters

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Highway Department has advised that the following roads are closed due to high water and flooding: River Bottoms in the Lock B South area; Lock B Road South; Southside Road; Shelton Ferry Road and C B Road; Lylewood Road at the Stewart County line, and Levi Road.

“For everyone’s safety, we ask that residents avoid these roads and any other areas which look treacherous due to standing water. Remember, Turn Around Don’t Drown,” warned Emergency Management Agency Director Ed Baggett.

APSU Governors Red Coat Society to induct Joe Maynard, Cathi Maynard, Ron Morton

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – The Governors Club, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics booster club, has announced that Joe and Cathi Maynard and Ron Morton will be inducted into the Governors Club Red Coat Society.

Joe and Cathi Maynard will be recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game against UT Martin that evening. Ron Morton will be recognized at a later date.

Joe and Cathi Maynard are recent members of the Austin Peay family, but they have quickly become two of the Governors biggest supporters.

Clarksville Association of REALTORSClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Association of Realtors® (CAR) will host a public debate on Wednesday, July 11th which will include candidates from various Montgomery County races, including County Mayor, County Commission, County Trustee, and School Board.

The School Board debate will begin at 12:00pm, which will include candidates Carol Berry, Lamar Coker, and Loretta Morris. Montgomery County Trustee candidates Corinthia Elder and Kimberly Wiggins will debate at 1:00pm.

Clarksville Police release update on tanker truck crash at Dunbar Cave and Warfield Boulevard

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police reported today that a crash between a sedan and a tanker truck blocked traffic and left a woman trapped inside the sedan, shortly before 2:00pm, Monday, January 23rd at Dunbar Cave Road and Warfield Boulevard.

Clarksville Fire Rescue and Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services personnel collaborated in safely extracting the female occupant of the sedan, who was trapped with when the tanker trailer came to rest on top of her vehicle.

Clarksville Police reports sedan and tanker truck wreck at Dunbar Cave and Warfield Boulevard as well as a crash at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Lafayette Road.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – The math is pretty simple. For Austin Peay State University to gain an Ohio Valley Conference tournament berth the Governors must finish one game ahead of Eastern Kentucky.

If the Governors (5-8 OVC/12-16 overall) win the remaining three games it also is pretty simple—they will be part of the tournament that begins March 2nd at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University athletics literally have been family affairs for Dave Luther and Ed Baggett, who will be inducted into the Governors Club Red Coat Society, Saturday.

A reception is scheduled for 2:45pm prior to the 4:00pm women’s game against Murray State and the duo will be honored prior to the Governors-Racers’ 6:30pm game. The Red Coat Society, now in its 13th year, serves as a Hall of Fame of service for the Governors Club, APSU’s Athletics booster club.

APSU Red Coat Society inductions postponed to February 27th, 2016

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Although Saturday’s doubleheader is still scheduled to be played between Austin Peay State University and Eastern Illinois, the Red Coat Society induction has been postponed until February 27th, 2016.

With inclement weather expected to hit Clarksville much of Friday, it has been determined this year’s Red Coat Society induction ceremony of Dave Luther and Ed Baggett will be postponed to the late February date when the Govs play host to Southeast Missouri in a 4:00pm doubleheader.

Jim Durrett elected Montgomery County Mayor; John Fuson elected Sheriff

Election 2014Montgomery County, TN – Clarksville-Montgomery County voting for the Tennessee State Primary and County general elections was light. Around 11,000 people early voted and on Election Day, Thursday, August 7th, only 8,105 came out to vote.

With 9480 votes, Jim Durrett was elected the new Montgomery County Mayor. Incumbent Carolyn Bowers had 7654 votes and Curt Mize came in at 2295.

In the highly contested Montgomery County Sheriff’s race, John Fuson was elected with 11,020 votes. Tyler Barrett had 4,519 votes, with Bret Murray getting 1,809, while Dexter Mines had 1,612.

Annual Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Service Awards

 

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The annual Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Service Awards Dinner was held Friday, November 2nd at the William O. Beach Civic Hall.

Congratulations to the award recipients: Liza Kurt, Rescue Squad; Jason Smith, Palmyra station; Shaun Arms, Cunningham station; Thomas Higgins, St. Bethlehem station; Jamie Sensing, East Montgomery station; and John Bateman, Woodlawn station, for all being selected as Firefighters of the Year for their respective stations.

Shaun Arms was given the high honor of being selected as the Overall Firefighter of the Year for 2012. Shaun has been a volunteer firefighter since 2006 and currently serves with the Cunningham Volunteer Fire Service.
