City of Clarksville renames park to honor Sidney Brown

 

‘CSM Sidney R. Brown Park at Birchwood’ pays tribute to veteran, leader

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – City of Clarksville officials will conduct a ceremony at noon Saturday to officially rename Birchwood Park in honor of U.S. Army veteran and community leader Sidney R. Brown.

Retired Command Sgt. Maj. Brown, 85, is battling cancer, but is expected to attend the ceremony.

CSM (Ret.) Sidney R. Brown, right, received a proclamation from Councilman Richard Garrett at an event earlier this year. The City of Clarksville has renamed Birchwood Park as “CSM Sidney R. Brown Park at Birchwood” in honor of the U.S. Army veteran and community leader.

Go Commando Half Marathon and 5kClarksville, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband announced Thursday they would donate $40,000 to local non-profits and community organizations. The largest recipients, Clarksville Area YMCA and Fort Campbell Historical Foundation were on hand to accept the donations.

Unity Day last Weekend United the City of Clarksville for At Least One Day

 

Clarksville Unity DayClarksville, TN – On Saturday Hilldale Baptist Church played host to third annual Unity Day celebration. The goal of Unity Day is to build a stronger community by recognizing and joining together religious, governmental and business leaders in fellowship.

Unity Day was founded by Treva Gordon, the owner and publisher of the Convenient Shopper Magazine. “I was watching an awards show on television and I was so inspired by the way they honored the pop star’s and the rap artists. It was wonderful; they had the gift bags, bling bling, the limos, and everything that went with it. That was awesome!” she said to herself.

Go Commando Donates $35,000 to Local Organizations

 

Go Commando Half Marathon and 5kClarksville, TN – The Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k presented by CDE Lightband announced Tuesday they would donate $35,000 to local non-profits and community organizations. The largest recipients, Clarksville Area YMCA and Fort Campbell Historical Foundation were on hand to accept the donations.

“The intention of the Go Commando Half Marathon and 5k will always be to give back to the community; this money emphasizes that mission in a big way,” Channel Lemon, one of the Race Directors, stated.

Fort Campbell held dedication for the new Col. Robert E. Jones Training Support Center

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was be held at Fort Campbell, yesterday for a new 80,000 square-foot Training Support Center that has been dedicated in honor of Col. Robert E. Jones, U.S. Army (Ret.)  whose name will grace the facility.

The Col. Robert E. Jones Training Support Center will be one of 77 Army-wide facilities that provides Soldiers and leaders with modern mock-ups, devices, simulations and equipment, which will support the training needs and operations of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and other Fort Campbell units.

Clarksville, TN – I am not a runner.  I am barely a walker, but I have many friends who enjoy running.  My daughter has taken an interest in running and I could not be more proud.  The “Go Commando” half marathon this past weekend proves that this event is poised to be one of the best in the country.

The Clarksville Convention and Visitors Bureau took over managing this event after the previous organizer proved to be, how shall I put it, “unpopular”.  I was not that close to the race when it first started, but I kept hearing things that weren’t good. 

When that promoter tried to bring the race back to Clarksville, local sponsors and organizers were not willing to work with them.  The CVB wouldn’t have anything to do with them either, and the race looked like it had no future here.  That is where the good people of Clarksville come in. «Read the rest of this article»
