Governors ready for OVC football opener this SaturdayAPSU Sports Information: APSU Football
In fact, that 24-20 victory in 2009 snapped a 22-game losing streak to the Colonels, dating back to the 1977 season. The Governors would like nothing better than to repeat that victory 6:00pm, Saturday, against the Ohio Valley Conference’s most storied and successful program. After owning a school-record 26 seniors in 2009, the Govs had half that many (13) in 2010. This season the Govs have even fewer, eight. Austin Peay last won a football game, 26-23, against Tennessee State, September 18th. Governors stun Colonels; end 22-game losing streak to EKU
The victory ended the nation’s third longest losing streak to a single opponent. APSU last defeated the Colonels, Oct. 1, 1977 when Randy Christophel, the brother of current APSU coach Rick Christophel, was the quarterback. It included back-to-back losses to the Colonels after the Govs returned to the OVC in 2007. It also snapped a 17-game Govs losing streak to the Colonels in Governors Stadium.
