Round Rock, TX – The Nashville Sounds could not recover after a four-run first inning by the Round Rock Express in a 8-3 loss Wednesday night at Dell Diamond.
After a Drew Robinson walk and a Brett Nicholas single, Joey Gallo launched a three-run home run to right-center field to give the Express an early lead. Matt Duffy then tripled to left to set up Ronald Guzman with an RBI single to make it a 4-0 Round Rock lead after one.
The Sounds scored a run in three straight innings from the third through the fifth to narrow the deficit to 5-3.
Round Rock, TX – Nashville Sounds right-hander Jharel Cotton just missed a perfect game and settled for a one-hit shutout in the Sounds’ 3-0 win over the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond Tuesday night.
Cotton, recently acquired in a trade by the Athletics, retired the first 26 batters he faced on the night. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Round Rock second baseman Doug Bernier lined a 2-1 pitch to the right field wall for a triple to break up the bid at perfection.
The Virgin Islands native struck out a career-high 12 in the dominating effort. With Bernier at third, he punched out Drew Robinson for the final out of the game.
Round Rock, TX – Hanser Alberto drove in five runs to lead the Round Rock Express to convincing 13-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Monday night at The Dell Diamond.
The 11-run loss is the most lopsided defeat suffered by the Sounds since Sacramento clubbed Nashville, 20-1, on August 25th, 2014.
After the Sounds (67-50) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after their third time up, Round Rock’s (56-61) offense erupted for three in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and another three runs in the sixth.
Nashville, TN – The Round Rock Express trimmed the American Southern Division race to three games with a doubleheader sweep over the Nashville Sounds in front of 7,388 fans Sunday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.
The Sounds’ offense struggled and managed two runs in game one and just one run in game two.
Round Rock used a four-run third inning to help score a 5-2 win in the first game Sunday afternoon. Doug Bernier started the scoring with a solo homer off Nashville starter Jesse Hahn.
Nine-Game Winning Streak Snapped After Six-Run Ninth
Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds furiously rallied for six runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game, but ultimately dropped a 15-9 decision to the Round Rock Express in front of 4,781 fans Wednesday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.
The loss snapped a season-long nine game winning streak and trimmed the American South Division lead to 2.5 games over second place Round Rock.
Trailing 8-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, Josh Rodriguez sparked a rally with a base hit up the middle off reliever Chad Smith. He retired Jaycob Brugman for the first out of the inning before Chad Pinder walked.
Nate Freiman goes 2-for-2 in First Game Back With Nashville Sounds
Round Rock, TX – The Sounds threatened late, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-4 to Round Rock at Dell Diamond on Monday night.
The Sounds got off to a quick start in this one, as Craig Gentry was the perfect leadoff man, singling and stealing his team-leading 13th base to start the game. The outfielder then came around to score on Ryan Roberts’ 20th double of the season.
With the run, Nashville is now outscoring their opponents 41-21 in the opening frame of games this season.
Nashville Sounds Strike Out 13 Times In Defeat
Round Rock, TX – The Sounds got on the board first on Sunday night, but Round Rock answered and edged Nashville 4-2 at The Dell Diamond.
Cody Martin made his Sounds debut tonight under the lights against Round Rock. The right-hander was acquired earlier in the week by the Oakland A’s and allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings. The hurler fanned five and walked three during his first start in the Pacific Coast League, but took the loss.
After an abundance of offense on Saturday night, both teams produced just seven hits apiece.

Round Rock, TX – The Nashville offense provided the fireworks on Independence Day, launching four solo home runs in their 7-4 (10) victory over Round Rock at Dell Diamond.
For the second straight night, Jake Smolinski gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead. The solo blast came in his first at bat against his former team. The outfielder joined the Sounds after the Oakland A’s claimed him off waivers from the Texas Rangers on June 21st.
