One bad inning dooms Johnson City in 12-year old Little League State Tournament elimination-game loss to Obion County
Clarksville, TN – Johnson City’s defense let them down, July 22nd at Griff Schmittou Field in the 12-year old Little League State Tournament, as Obion County took advantage of five fifth-inning errors in scoring 10 runs to advance in the loser’s bracket with a 13-3 victory.
The game was tied 3-3 heading into the top of the fifth inning, but three errors by Johnson City – coming on the first two Obion County hitters in the inning — allowed both to score and take a 5-3 lead.
Tullahoma uses four home runs to eliminate Clarksville National at 12-year old Little League State Tournament
It would be errors early-on that pull Clarksville National in a hole, as Tullahoma scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 advantage.
Matt Marcel opened the inning by hitting a ground-rule double just inside the line in right and scored an out later on a throwing error by Clarksville National’s third baseman.
Karns, South Nashville reach finals of winner’s bracket at 12-year old Little League State Tournament
Clarksville, TN – Karns continues to flex its muscles while defending state champion South Nashville had a little bit of a scare, July 21st at Griff Schmittou Field in their 12-year old Little League State Tournament winner’s bracket semifinals, but both advanced; with Karns blasting Obion County 26-0 and South Nashville slipping by Tullahoma, 3-1.
In Game 1, Tullahoma jumped out in front of the defending state champs on a solo homer by Bailey Miller off South Nashville starter Drew Byers.
Johnson City rallies in top of sixth to defeat Morristown American 5-3 in elimination game held in Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – Johnson City scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, July 21st at Eddie Page Field, to post a come-from-behind victory over Morristown America 5-3, in the 2014 12-year old Little League State Tournament.
Trailing 3-2 heading into its final at bat, Jacob Cunningham got the rally going with a single and an out later moved to third base with the tying run on a single by Mason Broome.
A walk to Ben Lynch would load the bases, followed by a sacrifice fly by Chance Ladishka to tie the game 3-3.
Johnson City stays alive with walk-off win against Smith County in 12-year old Little League State Tournament
Clarksville, TN – Briley Townsend hit two home runs, July 20th at Griff Schmittou Field, including a walk-off to-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning to keep Johnson City stay alive in the 2014 12-year old Little League State Tournament with a 12-10 elimination-game victory over Smith County.
Townsend finished the game going 4-for-4 with a double and triple to go with his pair of homers, while also driving in six runs.
Smith County would draw first blood with two runs in the top of the first inning, with Charlie Hopper reaching on an error and scoring on a double by Barrett Brigg.
Clarksville, TN – Defending Tennessee state champion South Nashville opened its title defense, July 20th at Griff Schmittou Field, with a 10-0, no-hit victory versus Morristown American in the 2014 12-year old Little League State Tournament.
South Nashville came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning; they recorded nine hits in scoring 10 runs.
Barrett Smith and Robert Hassell opened the inning with back-to-back singles and an out later scored on back to-back singles by Blake Money and Cade Reynolds.
Karns uses long ball to down Johnson City in 12 year-old Little League State Tournament in Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – Karns blasted nine home runs, July 19th at Griff Schmittou Field, to defeat Johnson City in the opening round of the 2014 12-year old Little League State Tournament 21-0 in four innings.
Karns came out swinging to open the game, as they blasted two home runs in the bottom of the first inning to get out to a 5-0 lead over Johnson City.
Tullahoma defeats Smith County 18-8 in opening round of 12-year old Little League State Tournament in Clarksville
Clarksville, TN – Tullahoma scored the final eight runs to defeat Smith County, July 19th at Griff Schmittou Field in their opening-round game at the 2014 12-year old Little League State Tournament, 18-8.
After seeing Smith County cut their lead to just 10-8 in the top of the third inning, Tullahoma responded with six runs, highlighted by a grand slam home run by Cam Hargrove and a two-run shot by Sam Malmstrom in the bottom of the third inning to make it 16-8.
Clarksville High School students to compete in State-Wide Poetry Contest at Austin Peay State University
Nashville, TN – Along with 14 other Tennessee schools, students from Antioch High School, Franklin Road Academy, Overton High School, Battleground Academy, Fairview High School, John Paul II High School, Clarksville High School and Cookeville High School will participate in the 2014 Tennessee Poetry Out Loud State contest.
