APSU Athletes continue success in classroom during Coronavirus pandemic

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes continued their recent string of success in the classroom, the department announcing its 297 athletes combined to post a 3.292 grade-point average during the Spring 2020 semester.

It is the sixth consecutive semester the APSU athletics department has posted a 3.0 GPA or better and the eighth time in department history. In addition, each of the 15 varsity teams recorded a 3.0 GPA for the second consecutive semester.

“I must commend all of our student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom,” said APSU Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison.

Austin Peay State University Softball splits doubleheader at Chattanooga

 

APSU SoftballChattanooga, TN – The Austin Peay State University softball team rallied with a four-run fifth inning in Game 2 of their doubleheader with Chattanooga, Sunday afternoon at Jim Frost Stadium, to come away with a 4-1 victory after dropping the opener, 9-1.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Instant Peay Play: Cupboard isn’t bare for APSU Govs as softball season opens this week

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Despite losing some if the best players statistically in program history after last season, the cupboard isn’t bare for the Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team, as it begins it’s 2020 regular season this coming weekend at Chattanooga.

Twelve letter winners return this season, including six starters from last year’s 33-22 squad, led by sophomore third baseman Lexi Osowski, who after hitting a team-high .387 with 11 doubles and 17 RBIs, was named to the Ohio Valley Conference Second Team as well as being selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Central Region Third Team.

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay Peay State University softball’s Red Team rallied from behind to score three seven-inning runs, then held off the APSU Black Team in the bottom of the inning, Wednesday afternoon at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, as they won the finale of the Austin Peay Softball Fall World Series, 4-3.

APSU Softball sweeps Wabash Valley

 

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball pitching staff held Wabash Valley College to nine hits and one run over 15 innings, Friday afternoon, in their doubleheader at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, as the Governors came away with 1-0 and 9-1 victories.

The wins improved the Govs to 4-0 overall this fall, with their next action coming in their fall-ending Red and Black World Series on October 21st-23rd.

APSU Softball sweeps Trevecca

 

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball freshman Shelby Harpe hit a walk-off two-run homer in Game 1, Saturday at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field, help lift the Governors to a sweep of the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans, by 7-6 and 8-7 finals.

The game-winning homer by Harpe was the only home run hit by either team in the doubleheader.
