APSU Sports cap impressive 2018-19 campaign with best-ever finish in OVC Commissioner’s Cup

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN –  The Austin Peay State University (APSU)s athletics department posted its best-ever finish in the 2018-19 OVC Commissioner’s Cup behind two regular-season championships and another pair of Top 3 finishes in Ohio Valley Conference play

APSU delivered its second-straight 100-point tally in the OVC Commissioner’s Cup, with its 109 points this season an improvement over last season’s 101.5 points. That total pushed the Governors to fourth among the league’s 12 members. Murray State won the 2019 competition with 128 points, its first victory since the inaugural commissioner’s cup was awarded in 2008-09. Jacksonville State finished second (115) followed by Belmont (114) and Austin Peay.

Instant Peay Play: Historic week for APSU Governors Athletics

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – If you’re a fan of Austin Peay State University (APSU) athletics this was a week to remember, as championships were won, records were set, and teams surged to the top of their respective sports standings in Ohio Valley Conference play.

The women’s tennis team continued their undefeated run this season, improving to 22-0 overall – the only undefeated team left in NCAA Division I – by winning their two matches at the OVC Championship Tournament to win the conference’s title and punch their ticket into the NCAA Championship Tournament.

APSU Governors student-athletes set department record with 3.15 GPA in Fall 2018

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes set a department record with a 3.15 grade-point average for the Fall 2018 semester.

For the first time, Austin Peay student-athletes have posted a department-wide GPA of 3.0 or greater in three consecutive semesters. A record 209 student-athletes received academic recognition for the Fall 2018 semester, including 107 recognized on the dean’s list. It’s the third time 100 or more student athletes have been named to the dean’s list.

APSU FootballCape Girardeau, MO – In a game that went down to the final play, Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) football team simply ran out of time in their bid to spoil Southeast Missouri’s Homecoming, falling 31-27 despite another outstanding afternoon on the ground.

Austin Peay (3-4, 1-3 OVC) racked up 226 yards rushing on 41 carries for a tidy 5.5 yards per rush; three Govs averaged eight yards per carry as the Govs continually found space between the tackles and off the edges against Southeast Missouri (4-2, 2-1).
