Avery, Richards lead Lady Govs to sixth-place finish at OVC Championships

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – Junior Janelle Avery and freshman Xiamar Richards finished among the top 25 to lead the Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Championships, Saturday morning, at Southern Hills Golf Course.

Avery finished the five-kilometer course in 19:53.85 and finished 24th. Richards followed immediately in 25th with a time of 19:56.31. Eastern Kentucky’s Katherine Pagano won the women’s championship with a time of 18:23.00.

Avery, Lady Govs look to continue improvement at OVC Championships, Saturday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Junior Janelle Avery leads the Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team as it competes in the 9:00am, Saturday, five-kilometer event at the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Championships hosted by Tennessee Tech at Southern Hills Golf Course in Cookeville.

Avery is finishing the 2010 season with impressive efforts in the Lady Govs’ last two events. She finished 49th overall with a time of 19:23 at the Greater Louisville Classic, October 2nd, followed by an eighth-place finish at the Fast Cats Classic, October 16th, with a season-best time of 18:55. Avery will look to improve on her 31st-place finish in last season’s version of this event.

Avery continues improvement as Lady Govs finish fourth

Austin Peay State University GovernorsOwensboro, KY – Junior Janelle Avery finished eighth to lead Austin Peay State University womens cross country team at the Fast Cats Classic, Saturday, at Yellow Creek Park.

Avery led the Lady Govs for the second consecutive race, finishing the five-kilometer course in 18:55.52. She was 24 seconds off the winning pace set by Belmont’s Nicole Muldowney, who finished the race in 18:21.71.

Lady Govs impress at Old Timers Classic

 

APSU Women’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBowling Green, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team put together a quality performance in its first effort at the five-kilometer distance, finishing fourth at the Old Timers Classic, Saturday morning at Kereiakes Park.

The Lady Govs finished in front of three of the four Ohio Valley Conference schools competing at the meet, which was scored in a dual format with each team’s placing compared to each of the other teams. Austin Peay defeated Morehead State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin while losing to league preseason favorite Eastern Kentucky.

Lady Govs travel to Old Timers Classic seeking stronger result

 

APSU Women’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsStill seeking a strong number five runner, Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team will compete at the Old Timers Classic, with a 10:00am, Saturday, at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, KY.

Hosted by Western Kentucky, the event will be another tough field for the Lady Govs as Eastern Kentucky (Southeast No.8), Western Kentucky (Southeast No. 14) and Bellarmine (Division II Midwest No. 9) enter the weekend ranked regionally by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association. Also competing will be Ohio Valley Conference members Morehead State, UT Martin and Tennessee Tech as well as non-conference Marshall.

Lady Govs still seek answers after sixth-place finish at PowerAde Invitational

 

APSU Women’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsFreshman Xiamar Richards finished in 19th place to lead Austin Peay State University women’s cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the two-mile PowerAde Invitational hosted by Chattanooga, Friday night, at Moccasin Bend Race Course.

The Lady Govs finished with 153 points in the eight-team field. Host Chattanooga won its season-opening event with 41 points, just edging second-place Middle Tennessee which posted 43 points.

Richards, a Clarksville High School graduate, finished the two-mile course in 12:31, an APSU record for a freshman at that distance. Kennesaw State’s Mackenzie Howe won the individual crown with a time of 11:01.
