APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Senior Averyl Ugba of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team has been invited to compete in the inaugural 3x3U National Championship in San Antonio.

The first-of-its-kind event will bring seniors from around the nation to compete and will pit 32 four-man teams consisting of players from every Division I college basketball conference against each other in a three day, 3-on-3 tournament.

Nashville Produces a Hit For Hockey as NHL All-Star Weekend is a Smashing Success in Music City

 

2016 NHL All-Star GameNashville, TN – The National Hockey League brought their Fan Fair and All-Star Weekend to Nashville, Tennessee during the last four days of January. This city and league had been preparing for this much anticipated event for over fifteen months and expectations were high as the greatest show on ice descended on Music City.

“What an incredible setup, what an incredible beginning to All-Star Weekend,” gushed NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman at the opening ceremonies on Thursday, January 28th, 2016. “The planning that the city of Nashville with the Predators and the local organizing committee and Bridgestone have done is nothing short of phenomenal. People are going to be thrilled to be part of this weekend.”

Kelly Ferguson, of Lemont, IL; Ashley Slay, of Nashville, TN; and Christina White, of Memphis, TN will join the Lady Govs program for the 2014 campaign.

Ohio Valley Conference Golf Championships begin at GreyStone Golf Club

 

Ohio Valley ConferenceBrentwood, TN – The 2013 Ohio Valley Conference women’s and men’s golf championships will tee-off at the GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee beginning this Sunday. The 54-hole women’s championship will be held April 21st-23rd while the 54-hole men’s championship will take place April 25th-27th.

The course will be a par 72 for each event, with the yardage running 6,858 yards for the men’s teams and 5,964 yards for the women’s teams. Eastern Illinois will serve as the host for the women’s championship while Morehead State is the host of the men’s event.

Nashville Sounds announce Roster for Opening Day

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds – the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers – have announced their tentative Opening Day 25-man roster, a group highlighted by the Brewers’ 2012 minor league player and pitcher of the year, nine returning players from the 2012 squad, and eight members of Milwaukee’s 40-man roster.

Well-decorated first baseman Hunter Morris advances to Nashville after an outstanding 2012 campaign at Double-A Huntsville, where he netted Southern League MVP honors, a minor league Gold Glove Award, and was named the Brewers’ Robin Yount Performance Award winner as the organization’s player of the year.

University of Tennessee to retire Candace Parker’s jersey

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary women’s basketball player Candace Parker by retiring her jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee Athletics Department announced Thursday.

Parker, a two-time All-American, will become the sixth Lady Vol player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. Her No. 3 banner will join those for Holly Warlick (No. 22), Chamique Holdsclaw (No. 23), Tamika Catchings (No. 24), Bridgette Gordon (No. 30) and Daedra Charles (No. 32). Lady Govs meet Lady Vols in NCAA Tournament’s first round

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University women’s basketball team will meet Tennessee in the 2010 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship’s first round, the NCAA announced, Monday. The Lady Govs and Lady Vols will meet in a 11:16 a.m. (CDT), Saturday contest in Knoxville.

Austin Peay (15-17) earned the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic bid after winning three games in the league’s tournament. The Lady Govs were picked to finish second in the OVC’s preseason poll and fell just shy of that expectation, finishing third with an 11-7 record. It was APSU’s best OVC finish and win total during head coach Carrie Daniels’ tenure – a two-spot improvement over the previous season’s finish (fifth) while improving the win total by one win. The Lady Govs non-conference slate included six teams selected to this year’s NCAA tournament field – Xavier (No. 3, Sacramento Region), Vanderbilt (No. 6, Sacramento Region), James Madison (No. 9, Dayton Region), Middle Tennessee (No. 10, Dayton Region), UALR (No. 11, Kansas City Region) and Chattanooga (No. 13, Sacramento Region).
