Austin Peay ROTC cadets excel at military summer programs

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, Tn –-Twelve Austin Peay ROTC students – including the University’s first-ever cadet to go to the Jungle Warfare School in Hawaii – attended multiple training schools during the summer.

Austin Peay State University also sent its first cadet since 2006 to Army Mountain Warfare School in Vermont and the third and fourth cadets ever to U.S. Military Academy Cadet Summer Training at West Point, New York.

Army Warrior Care and Transition announces Three Fort Campbell Soldiers selected for Team Army in 2019 Department of Defense Warrior Games

U.S. Army Warrior Care and TransitionArlington, VA – The Deputy Chief of Staff for Warrior Care and Transition is proud to announce the 40 wounded, ill and injured Soldiers and veterans who will represent Team Army at the 2019 Department of Defense Warrior Games in Tampa, Florida June 21st – 30th hosted by the U.S. Special Operations Command.

Approximately 300 warrior athletes with upper-body, lower-body, and spinal cord injuries; traumatic brain injuries; visual impairment; serious illnesses; and post-traumatic stress will engage in friendly competition and experience the healing power of sports.

Tennessee Vols hits the road to face #1 Alabama Crimson Tide

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee heads to Tuscaloosa to face No. 1/1 Alabama on Saturday at Bryant–Denny Stadium. The game will feature a 2:30pm CT kickoff on CBS.

Brad Nessler (play-by-play) and Gary Danielson (analyst) will be in the booth and Allie LaForce will report from the sidelines. Vol Network radio affiliates will have a live audio broadcast with Bob Kesling, Tim Priest and Brent Hubbs. Sirius Channel 138 and XM Channel 190 will also carry a live audio broadcast.

Tennessee (3-3, 0-3 SEC) is coming off a 15-9 home loss to South Carolina on October 14th.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball takes care of UNCW, 90-54

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Senior Jordan Reynolds recorded the third triple-double in program history to lead Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team past the UNCW Seahawks 90-54 on Thursday night in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Reynolds finished with a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 11 points and 10 assists, becoming the third Lady Vol to accomplish a triple-double and the first since Shekinna Stricklen in a win over Oklahoma in 2010 (17 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists).

Tennessee (8-4) took the lead for good midway through the second quarter and outscored UNCW (5-6) 27-7 in the third quarter en route to the team’s fourth consecutive victory.

Wednesday’s game will not be broadcast on TV, but fans can catch all of the action online through SECN+ on WatchESPN. Visit WatchESPN.com or download the WatchESPN app to view the game on a computer or mobile device. Lyndsay Rowley (play-by-play), Brittany Jackson (analyst) and Maddy Glab (reporter) will call the action.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball announces Non-Conference Schedule

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Notre Dame, Baylor, Texas and Stanford headline a stout non-conference Tennessee women’s basketball schedule that was released on Monday by fifth-year Lady Vol Head Coach Holly Warlick (108-34, .761).

Tip times and television network assignments will be available at a later date when that information is approved for release.

UT, which returns four starters from a team that finished 22-14 and rallied for the program’s fourth NCAA Elite Eight appearance in five seasons, is ranked No. 11 in Charlie Creme’s ESPN.com “Way-Too-Early Preseason top 25”. The Lady Vols welcome back their top scorer in redshirt junior guard Diamond DeShields (14.3 ppg.) and top rebounder in redshirt junior center Mercedes Russell (8.3 rpg.).

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors Chris Horton finally gets a shot at postseason play, history

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – For the past four seasons Austin Peay basketball player Chris Horton has been one of the best players in Ohio Valley Conference history to not make the postseason, well that all changed February 27th with the Governors earning a spot in the postseason for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Just how good has Horton been? Well, let’s start with his numbers for Austin Peay.

Heading into his first OVC Tournament game, Horton ranks 10th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,615 points – just 11 points from tying Trenton Hassell for ninth place — and 30 points behind Anthony Davis for eighth place.

Tennessee (7-6, 0-1 SEC) suffered an 83-77 setback at Auburn to begin conference play on Saturday. Despite getting 31 points from Kevin Punter Jr. and a season-best 22 from freshman Admiral Schofield, the Vols were undone by a slow day from beyond the arc (3-of-28 as a team) and 17 made 3-pointers from the homestanding Tigers.
