It will be the first commercial radio broadcast of an Austin Peay volleyball match. The Lady Govs earned their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Volleyball Championship after securing the Ohio Valley Conference’s automatic berth, November 20th. David Loos, who handles play-by-play for Governors football and Lady Govs basketball, will provide the play-by-play for Friday’s broadcast. Lady Govs volleyball to face Illinois at NCAA TouranmentAPSU Women’s Volleyball
Not only will this be the Lady Govs first trip to the NCAA tournament, it as well will be the first for head coach Haley Janicek, who might be the youngest head coach in the NCAA at only 23-years-old. A former All-Western Athletic Conference player at the University of Idaho, Janicek joined the Austin Peay staff as an assistant under then-head coach Mike Johnson, in 2009, following her husband’s transfer to the 101st Airborne Division. Lady Govs volleyball sees eight-match win streak end at LouisvilleAPSU Women’s Volleyball
The first two sets were wire-to-wire affairs. Louisville (22-7) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set only to watch Austin Peay (26-7) battle back to tie the set at both 6-6 and 7-7. However, the Lady Govs could not take the lead and the Cardinals scored six of the nine points to take a three-point, 12-9 lead.
